Oh, I almost forgot! I don't drink coffee, but we do a Timmie's Run on Friday mornings here, so I ordered a hot chocolate (with a mint flavour shot, YUM!).

You're a good sport today Tartan, I know my Scottish friend would have put me in my place and added a few colourful adjectives concerning who's fault it is for over consumption.
Speaking of consumption, I just finished fixing my friends TV in exchange for a case of beer so I'm heading out in this sunshine to wash the car and spend my paycheck, nice to get a head start on the weekend. TGIF

Thanks everyone for the congrats on the new job.

    Good morning everyone!

I'll be escaping to Niagara Falls for a long weekend in a little while. Would have left by now but wanted to try the pre-sale for Tom Petty at noon...if nothing fantastic comes up I'll wait until Monday. Good luck to everyone else who are trying for great seats.

    Have a fantastic weekend.

Petty's an incredible live act. I've only seen him myself once, back on the Wildflowers tour at Maple Leaf Gardens. In a case of right place, right time, I showed up outside my local Ticketmaster at 5am while the only people in line took off on a coffee run, so I ended up in the second row.

His Live Anthology is one of the best live albums I've bought in years. Quality, quantity and value-wise. Four discs of great stuff spanning virtually his entire career (including a number of tracks recorded at the above-mentioned show at MLG), I think you can still get it for under $20.

In this case, a group of girls attending a funeral couldn't find the mosque where they were going. There were four people in the car, but none of them spoke Farsi, which the person answering at the mosque spoke, where they were asking for directions. First of all, I'm sure they weren't the only people attending the funeral. I'm sure there were a number people they could have called for directions. If they were that lost, they should have pulled off to the side of the road and asked for directions.

I'm sorry, but the law's the law. If an officer bends it for one person who doesn't want to pull over and ask for directions, or invest in a hands-free kit, it creates a precedent.
If there are four people in the car, the driver should be the last choice to talk on the phone. They probably could have gotten away with one of the passengers holding the phone up to the ear of the driver, too.

I completely agree.. we as a society are to use to multitasking..and behind the wheel of an automobile is no place for that...texting.. calling.. eating.. shaving.. applying makeup.. to many accidents while driving due to a distraction..opps I dropped my cigarette, sandwich, phone, etc..and in a split second..someone could be injured, or dead... in a split second..the law is the law

While I agree that the law is the law and those girls should have pulled over while using the cellphone, I think what Joe Warmington was getting at in the article is how messed up the justice system is in Ontario. A known convicted criminal goes free and kills someone, yet innocent young girls looking for directions get no break at all. They were willing, according to the article, to accept the fine but had asked that the officers take them to the funeral so they wouldn't miss the burial and deliver the fine there or at least speed up the process of handing out the fine so they could be on their way. They were upset they were being treated like hardened criminals when all they did was commit a traffic violation (again according to the article).
We have to remember a couple of things here. First, a zero-tolerance program leaves no discretion to the officers, and they do as they are directed. They routinely, every single day, are faced with excuses or explanations (some legitimate as in this case) and must do their duty regardless. Second, the media always put a slant or spin on their article in order to make it more appealing to the reader. In this case, Warmington was playing on sympathy for the young ladies' situation. Sometimes you share the reporter's perspective and sometimes you don't. In this case I don't, but just a couple of weeks ago I quoted Warmington in my own column with respect to the feds not sending Toronto's HUSAR team to Haiti.

Their argument was that the person at the mosque only spoke Farsi. But they could have called any number of people following the funeral procession who didn't get lost.
