Here's the only way I can make sense of it; Emirates flies Toronto-Dubai on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Etihad flies Toronto - Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The only reason I was looking into Abu Dhabi was to save a hotel night and per diem (x 3), and it's only about 75 minutes by limo or bus between the two cities. So I think that Etihad offers the bus to Dubai in order to grab passengers that would otherwise fly Emirates the day before or the day after. Moral is - if you want to go to Abu Dhabi then book through to Dubai and just don't get on the bus. I should see if it works the same in reverse.

Maybe this is the reason
I received this almost a year ago
In case you hadn't heard
This brand spanking new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever built, sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse , France without a single hour of airtime.
Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi .
The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area. Then they took all four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not having Read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 really is. The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had all 4 engines at full power.
The aircraft computers thought they were trying to take off, but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc..). Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm.
This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air. The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward.
The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on. The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the
news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.
Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs.
Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

Good night everyone... my little natives are restless and want their midnight snack, and I need my beauty sleep!
I just checked the forecast, and it looks gorgeous for the next several days...
It says until Thursday!
Have a splendid weekend, and don't forget to laugh as much as possible!

The actual plane crash happend on Nov. 15, 2007. One story has it that the wheel chocks weren't in place and that the technician was caught by surprise and focused on the brakes rather than the throttle. It all took 13 seconds. I haven't heard an official report but an editor at Air Transport Intelligence said he found it hard to believe that an ADAT engineer was in control of the tests and that all of a sudden all the rules got broken because ADAT came along.
