Check out the skyline of Toronto in this shot. This was long before Centreville. You can see people swimming in the lake, enjoying a picnic and spending time with friends and family. Nice that some things never change.

Morning Loocie/Morning All
My up and attem is due to the fact that the online registration for Etobicoke residents for Toronto programs is open today at 7. My Mom has no need for the internet - she has me. So, I'm trying to get her enrolled in AquaFit, GetFit and (I think) Tai Chi. Do this every session - and even though I'm at the keyboard by 6:58 poised and ready to go - come 7 I get the "Maxed Sessions Reached". Usually get to connect around 7:20. Bummer. True to form - am playing the Maxed Session Reached game again.
Have to say, it's a much better game to play on such a wonderful looking morning (not the rain/stormy weather that ususally greets me during these marathon enrollment sessions!)
Must get back to it ...Courage is not the absence of fear but acting in spite of it.

I read summaries of the official report (including the one listed here http://avherald.com/h?article=41176dfa&opt=0) and while the basic facts are correct, the assumptions made by the editor at Air Transport Intelligence are flawed. There were people on board from Airbus and from GAMCO, which is a maintenance company that does work for Etihad. The rules for high power engine runs were broken due to complacency, probably because they'd done it so many times they felt that the rules were unnecessarily restrictive. They were very lucky that none of them was killed, but what a waste of a beautiful new airplane.
Back when I used to fly for an airline, I was asked to do a high power run for maintenance, as they didn't have any mechanics who were checked out on doing it. We followed the rules and it was still all we could do to keep the airplane from moving when the power was up. A mechanic sat in the co-pilot's seat and helped me hold the brakes (both sides have brake pedals) and our legs felt like we'd just finished a marathon by the time we were done. The mechaninc said that he didn't ever want to be checked out on doing it because he was too afraid he'd wreck an airplane some day. He figured that only a pilot who flies the aircraft should be able to do it because they were trained on making a sudden stop in the simulator.
On a happier note, it's a great day already and only going to get better. Time for a nice long walk this afternoon. Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!Last edited by FlyGuy123; Sat, Mar 6th, 2010 at 07:22 AM.

Coop pic, Loocie.
I remember a class trip to the TD Centre (the black buildings behind the Royal York Hotel) when it was the tallest building in the city. We thought we were up so high when we went to the observation level. Now the place is dwarfed by its neighbours.A truly wise man never plays leapfrog with a unicorn.

Good morning everyone - it's going to be the nicest day of the year so far (unless you're a skier). Hope you can all get out and enjoy it.
