Okay, time to close the loop on another puzzle/question/thing. The last answer we had was that each day of the week lasts for 48 hours, and I said that it was really close to the complete answer. Recap; each day begins in the first time zone west of the International Date Line (IDL), which is time zone UTC+12 (12 hours ahead of Greenwich). 24 hours later that first hour of the day has made its way around to the time zone to the east of the IDL, UTC-12. And then each of the 24 hours of that day will pass in that zone, for a total of 48 hours. With me so far?

Then a couple of island nations messed it up by re-defining their time zones. Some, just on our side of the IDL, preferred to be on the same day of the week as New Zealand, for example, for administrative and commercial reasons. Most notably, in 1995 the nation of Kiribati solved the problem of having some of its more easterly islands on a different calendar date than the rest of the nation by redefining their time zones as UTC+13 and UTC+14 instead of UTC-11 and UTC-10 respectively. So this 2-hour detour of the IDL means that each day of the week actually starts 2 hours earlier in parts of Kiribati.

So to answer the original question, 'Wednesday' actually lasts 50 hours.

    Hope everyone enjoyed their day.

As it happens, I didn't see a lovely war, I saw The Aleph instead. It stars a wonderful actor named Diego Matamoros who spends a little over an hour on stage describing a pivotal moment in his life. It's rare you get something philosophical & entertaining at once. A little bit different, but well worth seeing.

    Night all.

    Drummerboy,

You are most fortunate I was otherwise occupied today or you would have heard from me earlier... When you try these out with the 'boys' please refrain from contacting me! I am not sure I can honestly vouch for you if your buddies hang out in silk/satin lace collars, and pink leotard dance outfits with longish too-toos... or is that YOU?

I wish you and the boys lots of fun, and do warn me well in advance so I will ensure I am not around...

    Cheers my friend(?)

Actually, I think we were Senior Canuck from 500 message posts. It really made us feel old staying that way for a few months.

    Shaman
Nice song, your Orange Marmalade. A lot of the pictures in the video reminded me of ice fishing.

    Kells and Argo,
    Thank you GFs!

I would have thanked you sooner had I been around...
Happy I could make you chuckle Kells and Argo.. appreciate the support!

Thank you for the codes and names today. Am slowly making my way through the thread... almost like window shopping....

I hope I won't come upon any surprises today in here....

What an incredibly great sunny day! I hope you were able to make the most of it!

Pleasant dreams when you get there!

Thanks for the winning words this morning - and a special shout-out to WizeGuy, who apparently was a one-man band last evening; singularly did the "graveyard" shift!

And BertBert - Mmmme was correct. Scenario behind balls v guts - no difference in outcome. As to the legalities, well let's just say: that's when you get to write thank-you letters to the Tide and Glad Bag folks!!
