You get rep power by the rep that you give to others and you do that by clicking on the greyish circle thingy at the bottom of your page info..(name, mood etc.)
Your rep power will grow the more times that you give rep to others.

Rep is a way SCers can reward each other for being the people we are. I use it when posters I like are in need of a boost or when I find a real awesome post that makes me laugh. I blindly give rep on this thread about once a week just because my work schedule has changed so much I can rarely post answers any longer.
WHen you give someone rep it adds to that persons rep power. SO if a poster like myself or Rockin' Kitty with lots of rep power give it you can see a difference. If you get rep from a poster with less rep then it will take longer to build up your power.

You are unable to add to someones rep power unless you have posted 50 times. You can give the rep but they accrue 0 points.
