They only put 3 letters of the answer in the code, and use a "Like" operator to determine a match. - Or at least that's the way its working in practice. I think they do it this way, so that if you make a spelling error, you will still like get the answer right.

This morning I answered with only "SPAG" so that contains the three letters they are looking for anywhere in the answer. Here is some sudo code that represents whatever they are using.

If upper(<submitted answer>) like '%SPA%' then
Correct - add their points
else
Wrong - provide error message.
end-if

For the economic bailout I answered with something like this 'suz*&4#0kd' and it was accepted.

Note: It is not always the first 3 letters they are looking to match.
