I have been doing this for a few years now, saves some $$ for sure, and is creative.

I've been making tags out of cards for years now too. I like the other ideas mentioned here too. Boxes and postcards. Already cut my cards up for tags so I'll have to remember these ideas for next year.

Re-using old cards as gift tags...what a great idea! Wish I'd thought to do that. I ran out of tags this year and had 6 gifts left to wrap but I didn't want to drive the 10km to go get more, so I just used snippets of wrapping paper instead. Next year when I'm in that predicament (hahaha cuz it ALWAYS happens that I don't buy enough tags), hopefully I'll remember this thread!

I just had a few bags left but I will save them through out the year. This is what I do:

The final product using pinking shears to cut out the cards and glue to the bags. I have some large bags but my calendars were not suitable to use so I will hit up my family for there old calendars for the larger store bags. Below the bags is a few tags that just need some curly ribbon or raffia once they are hole punched to tie them to the bags.

This one is taken from the Good Housekeeping website. It takes a little time, but it sure is worth it.

Recycle holiday greeting cards into holly leaves for this one-of-a-kind decoration. Using a holly leaf stencil, trace onto old cards and cut out holly shapes. With a glue gun, glue a toothpick onto the backside of each of the leaves to form a 1-inch pick at the "bottom" of each leaf. Take a 10-inch Styrofoam wreath and insert these leaf picks around the shape until it is completely covered, fanning and overlapping them as shown. Cut out more holly leaves as needed to cover the wreath with regifted greetings.

N.B. Just make sure they are standard size for the postal service:

    Minimum postcard dimensions 3 ½” x 5”
    Maximum postcard dimensions 4 ¼” x 6”

Thanks for posting the links! The first one seemed a little crazy with all the folding, but I used the instructions on the 2nd link to make a load of little boxes. It was really quick & easy & they turned out super-cute!

Awesome idea!! I have a tag paper punch too!!

and CCMP - fab bags! very resourceful!

I love the wreath idea too. Hmm does any scrapbooking company make a poinsetta leaf punch?

My mom used to make little boxes out of her Xmas cards to use for the following year for little items or gift cards.
