If anyone can help me on this...I went to my local SDM last night and the lady gave me the app to fill out for the optimum card. It is FREE to do right? No credit check etc etc? I wanted to go back today and do it but I'd like to find out first.

I'm thinking of getting the Mastercard. I figure even if I get it and use it once to get the bonus points for first use, it's worth it. Does everyone find it's worth using?

It is definitely worth using. Let's say you want to buy some bus tickets and spend $192 per month (20 tickets weekly for two people). You can just buy them at the bus station and earn nothing or do it at SDM. Buy $200 GC with SDM MC and get 2,000 points right away and then 3,000 on your Mastercard. So only bus tickets will give you 5,000 per month

LOVE THIS THREAD!!!
A few questions thou...
1) Do you get bonus points if you transfer your prescription to Shoppers? As well, if you have a health plan where it is automatically deducted on the till, do you miss out on the points for what you would have spent, making it wiser to pay for the prescription upfront and then submitting your receipts online for reimbursement?
2) For Plus status... If I got my Shoppers card in Jan, and then reach "Plus" status in May... Is my plus status good until the end of Dec of the same calendar year, or May of the following year?
3) If you buy a 100 GC, can you simply hang onto it and ask the cashier to reload it when needed, or do you have to always buy new ones? And if you can reload it, does it always have to be for the same amount? ie: 50$ gifts card, request they put 75$ on it instead?
Thanks so much for your help!Keep Smiling!
Super Mel

1) Unfortunately we do not earn Optimum points on prescriptions in Ontario, so cannot comment on that.
2) Calendar year, it will be good until the end of December.
3) You can reload your card, any amount is good up to a maximum $200. If you will get a cashier who doesn't know how to do it, there's a code on the back of the card.

I just earned plus status. When does it take effect?
Plus status takes effect immediately when you earn it. You will have plus status for the remainder of the calendar year and the next calendar year. You must re-earn it each year though. For example...if you obtain plus status in 2010 you will have plus status for 2010 and 2011. But in 2011 you will need to accumulate the needed base points to have it for 2012.
End of calendar and next calendar as well.

Yup the Optimum Card is FREE ..just like there are other FREE loyalty cards like Air Miles card etc .
Make sure its a form just for the Optimum Card & not a form for the SDM Mastercard .
My dad when he went to Zellers was given a HBC Mastercard when he thought he was signing for the HBC Rewards card ..LOL .
