Added a few new pics on post 30 may 6th
Ok, so I don't usually post brags, but this is one I couldn't resist.
On Monday after picking up dd from work we noticed a bird's nest sitting on top of DH's extension ladder under our back deck. It just seem to appear out of the blue, we never saw any activity there at all.
We checked the nest from the top of the deck so as not to disturb it, but nothing was there. Empty
Tuesday, still empty.
Wednesday this is what we found
Checked again Thursday and low and behold
Friday we found this
We figured ok 3 eggs now maybe Mama bird will stay on her nest.
From the time we found the first egg, she seemed to be rarely in the nest, but clearly she has been coming back to it regularly
Today we checked again , not expecting to find anything....
We were wrong.
I told dd maybe if we wait long enough we'll have a dozen, lol.
After all this, Mama has decided it's time to stay in the nest.
I guess our next pic's will be baby pics .
May 3rd, 3 babies have hatched still waiting on number 4.
I was able to get 2 decent pic's. Will try to post them here, hopefully they won't be huge pics again but no promises , lol.
They aren't much to look at right now, but I believe they only hatched overnight
Have a great day everyone. This thread is currently associated with: GuessLast edited by dreamcatcher1962; Sun, May 6th, 2012 at 03:09 PM.

What an awesome brag!!!! I love how you took pictures each day. That's so cool. And I didn't know a robin would have THAT many eggs at once. hmmm. That's an awful lot of worms to find when it comes time to feed those hungry mouths!

That's awesome - great pics! Very cool that they are somewhere you can see!
We have birds nest in two places in our yard - in a cedar at the side, high up so we can't see - and in a pine tree up front.

Oh, how wonderful!!! Those eggs are so blue!! I've never seen a robin's egg before.....now I know what colour "robin's egg blue" is, lol! And that you took pictures each day! So now Mama has settled in....isn't nature wonderful?
Can't wait to see pics of those little bobbing heads once they hatch!
I've been hanging bits of red knitting yarn in the tree out back...pieces about 8" long and when I wake up each morning, they're gone! I can't find any in the yard that may have fallen, so I"m assuming I'm helping 'feather' someone's nest...
Keep up the good work...I'll look forward to more photos once those wee ones hatch!
Thanks for sharing!!!

Great photos of the progression.
I've never seen a robin's eggs either.
We have a robin that's taken over our yard this spring. He's so brave, plucking worms while I'm weedingThe best things in life...aren't things

Thanks for the comments. It's pretty interesting to all of us here as well.
What amazes me is that dd was able to take the egg pic's through a less than 1/2 inch space between the floor boards of the deck.
The grey areas in the photos are the deck floor boards.
From what I understand, Robins usually only lay 4 eggs and once the last egg has been laid it takes about 2 weeks to hatch, and then two weeks after that they try to fly out of the nest.
If we can get baby pics, I'll be sure to post them here as an update.
Maybe by then I'll be able to figure out how to post pictures that aren't huge.lolTrade List /Wishlist: http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/382792-dreamcatcher1962s-trade-wish-lists-canada/#post5928904

Cute photos! I always love finding the old, broken open shells of baby birds after they have successfully hatched.
