Thought I would start this since so many of us will be on the lookout for those crazy expensive , useless supplies, most of which come back at the end of the year unused, but don't get me started .
I'll make it a WIKI so we can all add and keep bumping it up. If you see some things that are NOT great deals please let us know. I don't purchase all of these things so I may not realize what is a good price or not. THANKS SCer's

My son last year use about 20 glue stick. I sometimes wonder if there was not a party of "lichage" de colle.
Patty, the elementary school also have the same type of "must have". My daughter was in grade 3 last year and the teacher ask for vinyl duo-tang with specific color. Doh!More savings and tips? Go see this site.

Yup and for me it's times 2 because it's a bilingual school so the english and french are treated separately. I already have my list and it one duotang of each color, colored pencils and crayons and markers for each!!!!
The school my son went to even wanted 2 different pencil cases one for french one for english.Last edited by Patty Smyth; Tue, Jul 17th, 2012 at 03:19 PM. Reason: spelling

2 years ago I remember the huge number of duo-tang of all color they ask for my daughter... it was crazy and take alot of time to have ALL the color: white, black, grey, orange, red, light blue, dark blue, yellow, pink, beige, green, purple and translucide.

I reuse the material I can each year. The eraser is still good, even of it not new.
Same for binder, rules, pens and pencils, etc.
Ds and DD have the same bags since maternelle.
That's the way I save money (and the environement too).
In my neighbourhood, there's parents unable to provide school supplies. So, each years, there's always a liquidation at Wal-Mart were I can grab things for next years. And I always have some more for those who can't afford it. It's not a big deal, but if this can help ONE person... why not!More savings and tips? Go see this site.

I try to re-use some stuff and I used to go to Bureau en gros at the end of the season but I always ended up with crap they don't use. The thing that really bothers me is in high school when they ask for a specific scientific calculator. Well what do you think happens to them? The kids who can't afford it steal them and my son went through 3 one year . Same goes for textbooks, one year he ended up with 2 history books, someone took his science book, replaced it with a history book, well guess how much mom had to pay for that one ? $100!!!!
