Doors Open Hamilton May 5 & 6

The event is on this weekend. If you are travelling through Hamilton, a day pass for Saturday on the HSR might make sense for a group stopping and going at the various downtown, Mountain and east-end sites. More suburban areas-carpooling is best due to weekend bus schedules (ahem, 16 Ancaster is an hourly bus for Saturdays but it does stop near Shaver Homestead on Garner Rd-definitely a place to visit and see the various buildings (and it does not hurt that Tim Horton's/Wendy's is across the road too). The Farmer's Market community kitchen will have Saturday afternoon talks.

Going to Auchmar? Plan on a long wait to get the tour or go to the site first thing in the day. Bus stop around the corner on West 5th St. is for 21 Upper Kenilworth, 33 Sanatorium and 35 College (parking-well, Mohawk College has paid lots kitty-corner to Auchmar-bring your change or cards). Tomorrow will be cooler than today so dress in layers.
