What an eye opener. Thank you! Surprised by all the ice cream at Unilever. And the cosmetic/creams at Nestle!!!!!!! I think they forgot Simply Orange under Coca Cola

I think a lot of people would be very surprised that just a few years ago Coke actually almost went into bankruptcy!! There company was in serious jeopardy of closing. Seems that they (for many years) thought that their name and product was going to stand the test of time all on it's good name. As people started to turn away from "unhealthy soda" and more to "healthy juices" they thought there was no need to change. They really were shocked to find out it just wasn't going to hold up and over the past couple years have begun to really try to change the products they are putting on the market.

Let's hope it works out for them!

wow...that is amazing...a bit Chomsky'ish tho! The whole food industry controlled by a few mega corporations.

If we choose, we can live in a world of comforting illusion.

Saputo is a Canadian publicly traded company on its own. Nestea has to be Nestle. Look at the name. I don't believe anyone who says otherwise lol

Brands get bought and sold and companies combine and split regularly. Wrigley used to be independent not too long ago for example.

I grew up in the food business and still follow it. Many of you enjoy products that carry my family name (no not any of the brands listed).

Except for Kelloggs (who only manufactures their own brands), nearly all these companies make store brand and no name products in the same factories with the same ingredients or at most slightly different formulations. If you look at the name brand and store brand packages they are often the same size and shape with the same caps etc The change the package color and label.

My family manufactured food that went in a big bin and then into branded or store branded bags based on orders.

Later, we bought a Pillsbury/Green Giant factory where they canned veggies etc (now closed). I learned that all the cans went in the warehouse without labels. When corn was ordered they pulled a corn pallet and added GG or store brand label to match the order.

I've toured a factory that fills soap, shampoo, body wash etc bottles. It's all the same basically.

An ice cream plant I serviced makes branded and store brand products.

I also know lot about a big brand name water facility - name brand and store brand, all filled on the same line with exactly the same process. Only difference is the label and price.

Paying more for a brand name product vs store brand is just throwing money away.

Kelloggs also owns Morningstar Farms/Worthington/Loma Linda meat substitutes.
    Kraft owns Boca
Hain Celestial is missing from the list - they are a growing second tier public co that owns a long list of brands http://www.hain-celestial.com/brands.php
