I'm working on making some changes in my kitchen right now, although to be honest, it more of a DBD (Done By Dad) project than a DIY... although I'm great at handing him tools and taking stuff out to the dumpster
My kitchen is very little... made smaller by the *beautiful* old-fashioned cabinets the overhang the countertop - well, no more! So much better after we took them down on Saturday. Next big thing is to switch the dishwasher and fridge - can't wait!

I have to say, I'm more impressed by home renovations done by people who "think outside the box"...they might have tight spaces to work with, but they come up with ingenious ways to make use of that limited space. It's easy for some people to move to bigger houses or to hire a designer to do the work. I think it's more rewarding if you can make your home a warm place that reflects your personality.
It's ironic that by the time you get around to affording a larger house, it's about time to downsize!

DH has just finished painting our 2 level deck - top part cream- lower part - kind of Devon blue - and he put up the screen and wrought iron gazebo today. We spent a lovely 1/2 hour just drinking in the beautiful trees and grass and watching our dogs run after squirrels.

Patty, the room looks absolutely fabulous! How exciting for Kiera to sleep in that fabulous room. Now she probably wants all her friends to come over and play at her house, just to show off her room, lol

Love your dd's room, Patty! I love the lamp! She's not such a "little girl" anymore!

So thanks to Patty, her can do attitude gave me the courage to tile my own kitchen, I have completed the tile work for my backsplash. I need to seal the tiles and grout today, then I am done.

Holly, that may be the exact tile that our DD and her hubby had installed in their kitchen in our former home...omg! I can't even imagine NOT having anything there now! I guess a long time ago there wasn't the selection we have now, so we just never did it...but boy, what a difference!
You did a remarkable job, my Friend!!!
As for downsizing...that's what we did, MARSTEC....from 3600sqft to about 1100...sigh...I've never lived in such a small space, so I'm really wrestling with decorating it AND getting enough storage, particularly in the one bedroom we've designated as our dressing room. It was our DD's home, and she put in two of those ugly wardrobe thingies....they do the job but u-g-l-y!!
I want to paint the room but do I have to move those things?! Or do I paint 3 walls? Do I paint those two? And if I do all of that, will I ever like that room at all?!!
My hubby's awaiting instructions...I just don't know what to do....

And while I'm ranting...what colour?! The rest of the house is a taupe/greige, which is nice and all, but not for that room..our bedroom is an icy (VERY light) blue with brown....I don't want grey, and if you've opened a decorating magazine lately it seems every page has a grey room! How dull. I'd love to take the plunge and do white walls with sheer curtains with big orange or red poppies on them...but there aren't many other places to put colour...it's a dressing room afterall...I have a wing-back chair in there now, that's too large for the room....GAH!!!! I just KNOW it's going to stay like that until I light a fuse and blow the thing up!!!
Sorry for the vent....I'll try to settle myself down, now....pant, pant....
