westray mine disaster
20 years since we heard of the westray disaster.
a lot of my family is from next door to plymonth,
and i have heard bits about my great uncles being
under ground when i was too young to understand
- guessing i knew they were ok - i saw them.
also great uncles who i never met.

remembering watching the coverage of westray, and realizing how
awful - the company had no idea if the guys were ok - as if - the politics, oh ppphhhttt,
and of course the guys and their families and friends - the worst.

Such a sad anniversary. :(
The Westray mine disaster should've never happened - a very, very tragic example of greedy/uncaring corporations who see their employees as just numbers. I think the only comfort I can take in it and the aftermath is that it did result in improved legislation relating to the criminal liability of corporations.

So true, Glowworm....but why does it always take a tragedy for people to SEE the problems in the world?...so terribly sad....
-
Such a sad day........I will remember it always!. My DD's had 2 friends that lost their Daddy's that day.
Mother's day will never be the same for them.

Hits close to home...living in Sudbury, Ont and working for a huge mining company...experiencing fatalities first hand over the last year.
-
I remember that day I was living in Halifax at that time but I am from Cape Breton and most of my family were miners.
-
I remember that day very clearly as well. I was a kid (six years old) and my parents friends were over, who happened to be from Capre Breton. After dinner we watched hours of coverage in the family room.

Such a sad time for so many people!
