World War One
Immobilized soldiers lie in the sun, recuperating from their wounds, while four nurses in long white dresses carry an injured man toward the operating theatre. The Scottish Women's Hospitals Service established their field hospital in the dilapidated Abbaye de Royaumont, close to the front lines, and managed to get even the fountain running.
Happy Nurses' week to all you wonderful angels out there!
Two of my sisters are RNs. The eldest one (14 years older than me) is retired now, but was a general surgery nurse.
The one three years older than me is an ICU nurse, and I'm in total awe of what she does! When she first started working she had me go there to visit her, and OMG, I was just floored by all the techie stuff (this was decades ago), and I remember telling her that I could never do what she does. Her reply to me - that my job as a primary school teacher scared HER more than anything, lol!
Some things I'm lifting from her FB feed -
Give me strength and wisdom
When others need my touch
A soothing word to speak to them
Their hearts yearn for so much
Give me joy and laughter
To lift a weary soul
Pour in me compassion
To make the broken whole
Give me gentle, healing hands
For those left in my care
A blessing to those who need me
This is a Nurse's prayer

You're a nurse? That's cool, I wanted to do that when I was a kid. How much do you make?
The nurse replied, how much do I make? I can make holding your hand the most important thing in the world when you're scared. I can make your child breathe when they stop. I can help your father survive a heart attack. I can make myself get up at 5 a.m. to make sure your mother has the medicine she needs to live. I work all day to save the lives of strangers. I make my family wait for dinner until I know your family member is taken care of. I make myself skip lunch so that I can make sure everything I did for your child today is charted. I make myself work holidays and weekends because people don't just get sick Monday-Friday. Today, I might just save your life.
So, how much do I make? All I know, is that I make a difference.
To the SC nurses -
