Allergic Reactions?
So my daycare provider sent home a banana muffin with my LO because she knew we hadn't given him egg (not supposed to until after 12 months) and she didn't want to feed him anything with egg until she knew if it was safe or not. So DH decides to go ahead and feed him the damn muffin!! Thank god he only gave him half! Not twenty minutes later he projectile vomited all over the couch (so glad we went with the leather!) in a steady stream that lasted about five minutes. Then he started getting lethargic, he was crawling on the floor and would just collapse, then crawl a few more steps and collapse. Then he started passing out and we had to keep yelling at him and tapping his face to make him open his eyes.
We were so scared we called Telehealth, but couldn't get through so we called 911. We had a bunch of firemen, policemen and paramedics show up. By the time they got here, he was starting to be a little more responsive. His heart rate was a little fast and he had a temperature of 38.5 but was otherwise okay so we decided not to take him to the hospital.
Does this sound like an allergic reaction? I thought that was more like getting hives and swelling up? Has anyone had something like this happen before? I am very freaked out right now!

I would make an appointment to see your family dr. and bring it up. If your DS shows signs that effect his breathing and/or concern you go to the ER. Did I read that you just went back to work? Sorry that this was additional stress to your return if that is the case! My DD has been vomiting like you described but has no lethargy afterward. We are now seeing a ped. dr. Vomiting can be a symptom of many things, including something serious like an allergy but also something benign like teething. In our case the ped. is less concern about our 16 mo's vomiting and more concern about her weight (17 lbs)...but I think they could be related. I hope you get answers sooner rather than later...we are still waiting for ours.

my son was allergic to banana when he was under one year old. The two times i tried it at six months , he would vomit so hard and have rash all around his mouth. I stopped giving it to him after i asked the doctor up until he was 3 years old..i gave him a teeny tiny piece and i was shaky all the 10 seconds, well he never reacted to it, now he is eating it daily. his ped says it happens in the first year, where babies react to different foods for unknown reason (according to him).. but you should inform his doctor as soon as you can! hope i helped!

Yes tell your dr!! Some shots have egg whites in them!!

Oh my gosh, how scary! Definitely needs a good checkup, and maybe a referral to an allergist for testing.

If he had a fever it could just be a virus. Babies pick up all kinds of nasty viruses their first year in daycare. How is today?

It might not be a full-blown allergy, but it might be a potent food sensitivity (or could be something unrelated to the actual food). That kind of reaction though would make me want to make an appointment with an allergist or avoid reintroducing something egg-related for a while (I'm assuming he's already had banana and is okay with it?) Because eggs are in so many things I would probably want to see the allergist just to be sure.
