i find it really sad that the paraolympics don't garner the interest and the media coverage that the regular olympics do.. i actually had to do a search for the medal counts the other day..

    not that i've seen

    i stole this from yahoo:

LONDON (AP) -- This year's Paralympics are expected to draw their largest ever live television audience — except in the United States, where events will receive only minimal coverage and won't be screened as they happen, prompting anger from some fans and campaigners.
While viewers in countries including Brazil, China, Britain and Australia will enjoy several hours of coverage per day, U.S. audiences must contend with 5 1/2 hours of programming — some of which will air only after the 11-day competition in London has concluded on Sept. 9. That has left some equality campaigners complaining that Paralympic athletes, who include military veterans, aren't being treated as the equal of their able-bodied teammates.

And as of right now, I haven't seen any of it

An acquaintance of mine was visiting from England and staying at a mutual friends place (she had actually volunteered at the London Olympics a month ago with the South Korean team), and she was looking for the Para Olympics coverage and was quite surprised/annoyed that there wasn't any.

I want to get in the spirit of it, but apparently CTV/TSN doesn't...

They should have more coverage of the Paralympics these people work even harder than the people in the regular Olympics and deserve to be recognized.

Oscar Pistorius won a silver medal in the 200 meter Paralympics race. He is an Olympian in both London games this year.

Weldon and Bessette Claim Gold in Cycling Road Race

    The Canadian Press
LONDON - Robbi Weldon has won Paralympic gold in road cycling. The Thunder Bay, Ont., cyclist and pilot Lyne Bessette from Knowlton, Que., were first in the women's road race in a visually impaired classification. The women race on a tandem bike with Bessette at the front and Weldon on the back. With the win, Weldon and Bessette bounced back from a disappointing fourth in the time trial.Weldon also represented Canada in cross-country skiing at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.

Woot! I am proud to say that I went to high school with Robbi. She was an amazing athlete back then too. Although she was legally blind, she completed in all the high school team including basketball, downhill racing, and she was our GOALIE in soccer. Our soccer team was not the greatest and Robbi was literally the saving grace.

I as well was upset at the lack of coverage of the Paralympics. I did find a couple hours worth on TSN2 last week and it was amazing. I have never seen blind soccer - absolutely incredible! It should have been on CTV so everyone could have seen such skill and talent.
