This is sad
Mark Rylance withdraws form Olympic ceremony due to his step-daughter's death
Actor Mark Rylance has dropped out of the Olympics opening ceremony following the sudden death of his step-daughter.
Film-maker Nataasha van Kampen died of "unsuspected natural causes" on Sunday, aged 28, the actor said in a statement issued by Shakespeare's Globe.
She was the daughter of Claire and Chris van Kampen. Rylance married Claire in 1992.
Rylance had been due to recite a passage from The Tempest at the opening ceremony on 27 July.
His statement read: "Our beloved daughter and sister Nataasha passed away of unsuspected natural causes early on Sunday morning.

Triathlete Simon Whitfield named "banner" (insert f-word) bearer!
The 37-year-old triathlete was named Thursday to lead the Canadian team into London's Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on July 27.
Whitfield, who was born in Kingston, Ont., and now lives in Victoria, will compete in his fourth Olympics. In 2000, he won the first-ever men’s triathlon gold medal in Sydney, and in 2008 he staged a memorable finishing kick to take silver in Beijing.
He’s considered a contender for a third Olympic medal in London.
Great choice!
(tried to leave a link, but they all have the 'f-word' in them, gah!)

Olympic flame arrived in London -
A member of the Royal Navy lowers himself to the ground from a Royal Navy helicopter with the Olympic Flame attached to his waist as it arrives.
Royal Marine Martyn Williams carried the Olympic torch as he rappelled down from a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter into the Tower of London on the shore of the River Thames. The commando's grand entrance plunged the symbol of the games into the city's historic heart, bringing Olympic pageantry to the British capital that last held the event in 1948.
The torch run continues til the Games open

The final torchbearer who will light the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremonies Friday is still a secret -
and, for now, it hasn't been revealed where it will happen, either.
Memorable openings -
An archer launched a flaming arrow at the cauldron in Barcelona in 1992. Muhammad Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, held the torch high and bent over to light a wire that led to the 1996 cauldron in Atlanta. Cathy Freeman lit a ring of fire in a pool of water four years later in Sydney.
