Expired on: Thu, Mar 22nd, 2012This is a HUGE coupon rant for No Frills!!
I just got back from my local No Frills (Denman St. Location in Vancouver, BC) and I had the worst experience at a grocery store using coupons!
I went to No Frills for their $1 sale and thought I would also pick up our weekly groceries as well. Of course as a SCer, I had my stack of coupons ready to go before hitting the store. This week, I only had a few, but with their $1 sale, I was hoping to get a couple of items free.
Once I hit the cashier, I tend to put the non-coupon items up front and then lay the coupons for each item after that. When the cashier saw all my coupons she told me that she will only allow one coupon per transaction and that I had re-line up for EACH OF MY COUPONS, especially if it was busy. But since it was not busy, she did me a 'favour' and allowed more than 1 coupon per transaction. But once someone lined up behind me, she ended my transaction and i had LINE UP AGAIN to use the rest of my coupons.
I was mad at that point. I've gone to this NO frills mulitple times and I've never had this problem with coupons. I wanted to talk to the manager, but our little one was being fussy and I wanted to get him home for his nap. As we were leaving, DH saw this sad little tiny printed sign that said they only allow 1 coupon per transaction. I was LIVID!! I am grocery shopping, not shopping at a clothing store. I purposely save up my coupons for our weekly grocery trip so we can save some money!
I won't be returning to this store or any store with this 1 coupon per transaction policy. I would rather go to another store and price match them and be allowed to use as many coupons as I would like. This No Frills obviously want to discourage coupon users!
Thanks for reading my rant. I'm off to write to head office now!!
Just thought I would pass this info on to any other No Frills shoppers, especially if you go to the Denman Street location in Vancouver. This thread is currently associated with: No Frills, Shoppers Drug MartLast edited by preciousqt; Sun, Jan 30th, 2011 at 02:05 PM.

That is terrible! I wouldn't go back...I'd go to Walmart and price match. I hope that's not policy for all No Frills now or I won't be going! Maybe if they get enough phone calls with people telling them they are no longer customers they will change it.

So sad that you had to experience that aggravation, especially when you have young kids to tend to as well. I surely hope this policy does not spread to Ontario. That would suck. Thanks for giving us all the heads up so we can be prepared. Take care.

It honestly sounds like someone who has completely misunderstood a rule.

I hope you take the time to talk with the store manager on Monday. Usually the store managers don't work weekends. Get this cleared up before you stop shopping there.

sounds very punitive; could be a manager who feels that customers are already getting such a good deal that they are trying to prevent/discourage 'coupon usage' combined with their sale prices. (we have a supervisor at my local SDM who feels exactly like that, and has said that to me verbatim.)

preciousqt, I went to this No Frills on Thursday and the EXACT same thing happened to me! Was your cashier named Cornelia by any chance? I had an absolutely terrible experience and have already written head office about this location as well the day after.

I shopped at No Frills in Coquitlam yesterday and used 10 coupons in one transaction. No problems at all. Sounds like the Denman store has set some rules of its own....

Me thinks the cashier is taking that a bit far, or is misled. I can see maybe possibly one per transaction, but to have to re-line up? No flippin way! Maybe she is supposed to do each transaction separately, but it sounds like her re-lining up rule is one she made up. Curious to know what the head office reply will be.

That is absolutely ridiculous; I would be furious too. Let us know when you get a reply back from the head office.
