I ordered a kit from New England Cheese Making Supply, apparently you can make mozzarella in 30 minutes. Can't wait to try it, I've read that it's easy!

Interesting. Make your own cheese kits. I've never heard of those before.

Keep us posted on how it turns out!

I've been interested in giving it a try too! Let us know how it turns out, Zonny. I can source out everything here except for the rennet...not sure where I can buy that.

There are lots of tutorials with tips on the internet and on YouTube.

Very cool! I've seen it made on tv - it's so cool when they stretch it out! Are you able to get raw milk where you are?

No, won't be using raw milk, I don't think that it's legal to sell unpasteurized milk here. But I can get non-homogenized milk, which should be fine!

This is the kit I've bought (but haven't received it yet):

    http://www.cheesemaking.com/30-Minut...cotta-Kit.html

It has a dairy thermometer, rennet, citric acid, muslin, cheese salt, all you need is milk. The kit has enough of these things to make 30 batches. It cost $25 plus $10 in shipping.

Nice idea with the price of cheese these days.
Plus you can control the ingredients and make it "organic".

With regular milk in the grocery at about $6 a gallon here, I doubt it will be more economical. I'm probably going to get some local milk from the farmers market that's fresher, and better for cheese (and even more expensive!). I still think it will be a cool activity for myself and DS. We love cheese!

My cheesemaking kit arrived today! We won't be doing it tonight, I'm going to think some more about milk. Apparently you can do this with powdered milk, that would be much more economical than our expensive NS milk. Might be worth a try, my kit contains enough ingredients to make 30 batches.
