Most liquor stores will give you moving boxes as well. They won't say "moving box" like Ikea ones, but they are the perfect size for moving. Thats where we got ours when we bought this house and moved. They go through so much stock there so there's always lots. ( for anyone not in the area that Ikea is offering them )

Another tip - McDonald's is giving away boxes too. You have nothing to worry about - they are perfectly clean (no greasy stains), don 't smell, have perfect size for moving and are for free! It's better to call them in advance and ask, because they may throw them away before you come.
That is how we got our boxes 2x when we were moving. If you need a lot, better start collecting them couple of days before.

I was just reading up on moving day in Quebec here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_Day_(Quebec)
It's interesting that Ikea would not miss the opportunity to help people out whilst getting their name out there. Good luck to everyone involved in moving day madness!

Kudos to IKEA for a great marketing idea.
Bargain hunters —especially people who don't move— also enjoy ... the common practice of leaving behind slightly used furniture and appliances on the curb side or in the alley, in effect giving them to anyone in need.~RRLF $0.75 Organic Meadow, $1 Almond Fresh~

Normally DM makes her annual visit to coincide with Moving day. I've had to drive down to PET to get her there in time without getting caught in the worse than normal traffic and still she makes sure that there in time.
Thankfully, she's not here this year...
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Montreal does not spend money on the issue, but it does caution people against picking up furniture at the curb due to bedbug problems at some locations. 2000 plastic covers were being distributed so mattresses could be covered if left at the curb?
The question I always had is why July 1 1s a moving day in Montreal? That is a holiday in Quebec as well as in the rest of Canada...though June 24 St. John the Baptist day is treated as a "national" holiday in Quebec.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
