When they called me back to tell me that he'd been fired, they told me he had been sick. I guess they got a lot of complaints about him before. Both the hotel manager and I agreed that we felt bad about having him fired, on top of the illness he was fighting, but they had already given him plenty of chances and warnings before, and this was the last straw.

I could be wrong, but I think he was a jerk to begin with and the illness has nothing to do with him continuing to be a jerk. We've all met people like that.
