I make a point of cutting my name out before recycling junk mail. I also cut out the children's names on their school papers that are going in for recycling. Anyone else do this? I tend to only use the shredder when there are bills involved (ie bill statements and store receipts with my name or membership number on it).
What bothers me is that some of those unsolicited credit card applications have your name on it in about four or five different places! My husband thinks I'm paranoid for going through all this trouble. I even take the labels off our prescription bottles and cut them up.
When I get the delivered mail, I often throw the generic junk mail in my big garbage bin in front of the house...it doesn't even make it into the house! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Rip off my name address etc in little pieces, and if they are so nice as to include a postage paid envelope they get back their original letter, envelope and maybe a flyer or two. Trying to support our postal service

I'm a junk mail burner. Either in the fireplace in the winter or the fire pit in the summer.
I have been known to place some pieces under the cat-litter for special treatment....

A few years ago, I actually found a neighbour's cancelled cheque on the ground on garbage collection day. It was fully intact, must have fallen out of the garbage can as the truck was emptying the contents.

I usually keep the junk mail (once the my info are cut-off) to the kids. They like to draw stuff on them or use them for craft.

Oh, it would be so nice to be able to have somewhere to do burning!
That said, we have bags and bags waiting to be shredded (ours takes forever to do it, so I procrastinate).
When I was growing up, we had a burning barrel in our backyard - used to love doing that with my dad!
