I heard about this story, I couldn't bring myself to watch the video even after hearing so much on the news about it. I watched a video years ago of soldiers having their throats slit and it was the worst thing I have ever seen. The world isn't twisted, people are.
That being said, I think it's normal human curiosity to have a fascination with things like that... kind of the same reason people watch horror movies but it's even more disturbing knowing it actually happened. This site doesn't have any graphic pictures, at least none I have seen, but the stories might keep you up at night: http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/index.html
There was a sting operation supposedly in the works with Ron Jeremy and some other stars. They were going to try to trap magotnotta before the murder happened but Ron Jeremy backed out. It was some sort of sting set up by animal activists and Rescue Ink.

Murderer faces victim's father in Montreal
Quote:
A preliminary hearing for Luka Rocco Magnotta has adjourned for a day while the judge weighs whether the public and the media should be barred from attending the procedure. The high-profile case was back in court, in a high-security room, as lawyers argued over an exceptional request to hold the hearing behind closed doors.
Magnotta is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Chinese-born student Jun Lin last May. He has pleaded not guilty.
The victim’s father, Lin Daran, returned to Montreal from China to attend the hearing. Lin’s father remained composed and showed no emotion when Magnotta walked into the courtroom.
Lin Jun's father has lawyer for support
Quote:
At first, the father of murder victim Lin Jun leaned into the translator beside him.
In those seconds, he was still winning the battle to control his emotions.
But in the next, Lin Darin’s face crumpled, he began to sob, as quietly as it is possible to sob, and he effectively collapsed into the arms of the tall man sitting beside him.
This was Daniel Urbas.
He is a 51-year-old commercial and civil litigator with the prominent national firm of Borden Ladner Gervais. If ever you doubted the old maxim that your lawyer can be your best friend, Mr. Urbas offers solid evidence of its veracity. At the moment, he is one of Mr. Lin’s only friends.
The father of the 33-year-old exchange student from China whose dismembered body parts were mailed to three provinces last year is in Montreal for the preliminary hearing of Luka Magnotta, the man accused in his son’s terrible death.

Magnotta admits to killing Jun Lin, but pleads not guilty
MONTREAL — Luka Magnotta admitted to the 2012 slaying of Jun Lin, though his lawyer is arguing he is not criminally responsible, citing mental illness.
The admission was revealed shortly after the proceedings began in Montreal while Quebec Superior Court Judge Guy Cournoyer addressed the 14 jurors hearing the trial.
With this, the determination of whether Magnotta, 32, is guilty or not rests on whether he was of sound mind during the murder.
Sitting in a large and secure prisoner’s box, Magnotta leaned forward to enter five not guilty pleas to the charges of first-degree murder, committing an indignity to a body, publishing obscene material, criminally harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other members of Parliament, and mailing obscene and indecent material.
During his opening statement, Magnotta’s defence lawyer Luc Leclair said the defence would be “not criminally responsible,” saying Magnotta suffers from schizophrenia and didn’t know what he was doing at the time 33-year-old Lin was murdered.
“Mr. Magnotta is going to raise the issue of mental disorder,” Leclair told jurors. “A person is not criminally responsible if they were not of sound mind at the time of the crime.”

Psycho or not, toss him away and throw away the key and never give him a single news line again. Just have him disappear forever, one way or another.
I agree, Lynn - but if they find it pre-meditated, he can't use the not criminally responsible defence.
Yesterday I made a comment on the CBC FB news feed about this. I said I am going to have to unfollow these news agencies who keep plastering his pic. all over the place and not one but two people called me homophobic lol. WTF????
That's just crazy, Patty - well, those commenters are!
We hear about it all day here. So sick of it. The poor family. Of course all the witnesses for the prosecution are being humiliated too :(

MONTREAL -- Luka Rocco Magnotta has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing and dismemberment of Jun Lin in May 2012.
He has also been convicted on the four other charges he faced: criminally harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other members of Parliament; mailing obscene and indecent material; committing an indignity to a body; and publishing obscene materials.
The verdicts came down today on the eighth day of jury deliberations at the Montreal courthouse.
Magnotta was charged with first-degree murder in Lin's death but Quebec Superior Court Justice Guy Cournoyer gave jurors the option of finding him guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter.
The accused admitted to the killing but pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
His lawyer urged the jury to find Magnotta not criminally responsible after arguing he is schizophrenic and didn't know what he was doing when he killed Lin.
I'm glad to hear this. Hopefully Jun Lin's parents can find some peace in this.
Bless that jury and judge for delivering this verdict.
Defence is asking for concurrent sentences, but it would be nice if they were consecutive.
For first degree, it's life without parole for 25 years - then add the other sentences onto that, which could range from 2-10 years.

Absolutely heartbreaking to read and Mr. Lin seems like quite a remarkable man.
Thank God! I didn't follow the case too closely because it's too horrible, but I was worried for awhile that he was going to be found not criminally responsible.
It was hard to avoid here but tried not to listen to the daily updates until the great news that he was found guilty.
