Hi beachdown, how should I take photos so you can see it better? It doesn't really smell like anything so probably not Sarcococca (so many C's, that was fun :)) Thank you!

We had a warning in our paper about not handling the white caterpillars with a little black spot that are appearing. I don't remember all the details but touching them would sting or cause a rash.
Time to take some Autumn pics...Wed first day
Nothing but death in my yard now :P
the burning bush looks good.. last year it just dropped its leaves without burning but this year it's putting on a good show
Really enjoyed the different coloured maple leaves carpeting different sidewalks yesterday-felt like autumn royalty!
@avoncallingu -seems that in Sept and early Oct, I kept seeing the fuzzy white spiked caterpillars with the dk brown or black spines exclusively. Thought the yard was under attack or something.
Chrysanthemums (long stemmed pink ones mostly) are still in bloom. Admired one resident's bushels of smaller head chrysanthemums (and the shorter stems) in their front yard display. Another resident has a collection of unadorned squashes on their landscaping rocks for fall/Halloween decor.
On my walk home in relative darkness from Walmart/McDs, I was spooked by movement on a driveway wall. Found out at least two little white goblin decorations made with sheets had moved in the wind-thought it was a creature.
Keep seeing ladybugs outside and inside.
me too! lady bugs every where but appaarently they are not real lady bugs but really asian lady beetles introduced to kill amphids in the late 90s i think.. cant remember exactly when read it last week but apparenly they want the warmth of our house.. i really dont want to share!
^MacGyver rep for @GoJays ! I prefer softer materials for staking plants. But everyone wants to be as clever and handy as MacGyver.
Carnations in my planter.
ugh, nothing.. everything's dead or asleep
we had purchased various hanging baskets again this year. Most of them of course have died off, BUT 2 baskets we finally brought in the house this week because they both had flowers and greenery STILL alive in them!! I cannot get a pic from my camera to load on here BUT one plant the flowers are tiny pink ones and the other they are purple. So purdy! We hung them under a large fluorescent fixture in the basement and the cats ( who eat ANY and ALL plants /flowers ) cannot reach them....hee hee.
My rosemary and parsley are still alive and kicking! Better eat them soon! It seems some of my spring bulbs are starting to make an appearance. Which I don't think is good
My grasses are looking majestic...especially when the wind blows
Took advantage of yesterday's mildness to rake out needles and leaves from the flower beds. I know at least three of the twenty-five tulip bulbs are viable-the green tips are about 1 inch above ground. Think it's a month too soon but hope they "sleep" another month before any more growth happens. Unless a squirrel or raccoon thinks the greenery means its takeout time.
What the deer haven't eaten.. But the garden is now fully shown cuz the snow is all melted off it.. Only for the deer to see more to eat now..
at this time of the year.....:icon_scratch:
snow ! snow ! snow ! nothing else....:bawling:
there IS still a layer of snow out back covering MOST of the doggy turds, but I swear they multiply when i turn out the porch light!! Oh well going to be another Spring cleanup job once the thaw comes

Last night, I thumped out the ice blocking the downspout. Found it hard to believe the snow is almost all melted this morning-last night's wind and today's wind are making short work of the snow (we'll be getting more in a day or so). Think branch cleanup is in the afternoon's plans and a chance to see what might need trimming. No crocuses as yet (still another two weeks or so to go). Will see if the early tulip sprouts are still green or did they die.
We were down to grass on almost all my property last weekend, but since 50 cm's have fallen on top. Hope today's warmth and rain take care of most of it!
can't go out back to see the spring bulb sprouts.. i'm afraid i'll sink up to my ankles in the swamp
not that i'm complaining because no snow.. yay!
Snowdrops have been up since the weekend and showing off their blossoms.
