How far along is the nest? DH took care of one last week by spraying it with WD40 - kills them instantly. Mind you, our nest was still very small, perhaps only three wasps working on it. They had some chambers built but no eggs had been laid yet.
I'm surprised at the interest in cast iron sinks (heavy and who has the back muscles to move it?). The laundry room used to have heavy double sinks (not cast iron but stone-like appearance with washboard lines in one sink and a very rusty stand under the sinks-I miss the washboard for pants but don't miss wondering when the metal stand was going to show "metal fatigue". The faucet/tap deck-think there have been four different tap handles on the deck.
It was an adjustment having a plastic deep sink in the laundry room but it works and won't rust! No worries about metal thieves either!
Patty, that's great that you have such big basil plants already. I had just about given up on mine and I saw about 10 little seedlings yesterday - woo hoo!
My Canterbury bells have started. Most are purple but some light pink are coming out. There are loads of buds on the scarlet carnation which will be coming out in the next few days.
I have some zinnia seedlings that I will move into this bed once after it rains tonight and tomorrow so that I will have something in this bed for late summer.

I had to remove my rain barrel this year because we are getting work done on the house , I miss it :(. Rainwater is so much better for the plants. :(
Also regarding cast iron sinks, the beauty is they can be refinished and last forever, not like the $20 crap plastic laundry sinks they sell now.
This was two or three weeks ago.
Yellow leopard's bane, false indigo in the corner, columbines, irises, and the start of the peonies. There is a row of Robinson daisy in the yard that I will be moving this year - it was an experiment.

Gorgeous!!! Do you have to stake them, how are they in a heavy rain?
Thanks! I have never needed to stake them and I have grown them 3 or 4 times now. I've never noticed them get damaged by rains and we get pretty strong downpours.Quote:
