Roses are blooming like crazy. Marigolds are spreading. Vegetable seeds are doing well. The mix of rain/cooler weather with hotter days mixed in has helped :)
Planted Sunflowers this summer, but still waiting for flowers to be bloomed...
Though Cranesbill blooming all the way in my new home!
No one's replying huh ? I wouldn't top them off... Last year I was pretty bad with maintenance and 2 of my plants grew past the 5' trellis so I trained them sideways along the top of the trellis instead... because I'm greedy like DAT:cheesygrin: But since we're still so early I'd try to add some height to your trellis via poles or something.... if you havev electrical conduit kicking around it would help. (10' conduit is 5$ at HD)
My understanding is that the point of topping off indeterminates is that it forces the plant to focus it's energy on ripening instead of putting out new growth which with good timing when frost comes around is ideal.... but.... given enough time, the plant would just put out a new vine.
I'm overdue for some pics...
They were saying not to top them off until 1 month before frost , oh well I guess I will wait.
Updates from the ghetto garden
Patty, your hydrangeas are growing in... as I told, I'm hoping they'll grow high and wide enough next year to hide the compost bin and other stuff I stash there. And you guys broke me down lol... I actually planted a couple annuall flowers to the right.

Question here.... these 2 jackmanii clematis are only on their second year but I'm wondering if they'll fill out that whole trellis eventually or if I should get rid of the irises and add some more... I was also kind of bothered that most of the blooms started occurring halfway up the trellis... I want it FULL enough to hide that shed. On the up side, purple pole beans on the right hand side are happy :-)
Cucumbers, trombocino squash and 2ndsowing of lettuce, tomatoes at the back are happy but my eggplants (which I just realized you can't see ) are having issues :-(
Summer squash that looked seriously sick earlier in the season, so glad I didn't rip it out.
Ok, I finally get my act together to post pics and SC is bugging up trying to upload them :-~
Another bed of tromboncino and tatume squash
Butternut or buttercup squash (not sure) and sweet potatoes....
Daylilly is in bloom, walker's low (purple at the far end) got waaaayyyy out of hand, it's crowding the hosta and my arbour of pole beans is looking kinda sad... but I'm hoping they'll recover or I'll have to plant something else for it next year... what kind of vine would be okay getting a constant water drip from the upstairs neighbor's AC  Anyone ?
And the left hand side beans got murdered by "leaf cutter bees"... seriously LEAF cutter bees !!
Ok that is all for now, you can have the thread back
So, what is this plant/flower in our garden. Should we bring it in as a potted plant in the fall, as was suggested to dh by the person h bought it off of.

This is my first year growing Royal Burgundy beans. I was surprised when the buds flowered - they are such a vivid fuchsia! Really pretty!

More odds and ends HERE.
Wow, you folks in Quebec are light years ahead of us! I wish I'd been into gardening when I still lived in NS. Our zone here (2a) can be a challenge, and the season seems so short!
Wow tbites you have a flower on the hydrangea :)
Leave the clematis by themselves it will fill out those are the ones I have you will see how wide they get when you come over.
MrsSunshine, that plant is a canna lily and unfortunately, they're not hardy in Ontario. I bring mine into the garage for the winter and leave it alone. It dies down but when I bring it back out in the spring and water it, it starts right back up again. It finally did die but it lasted for about three or four years.
awesome Jay.. thanks. if we dig it up and put it in a pretty pot as is for the winter will it survive as is.
i'm bringing in my rose bush too so figure the two can keep each other company.
Live in a apartment this year so NOTHING. Is growing this year :(
