in an effort to waste less money, we finally cancelled our cable!
every night it was the same thing - an hour or 2 of channel surfing.
never finding anything worth watching, just constantly looking.
horrible programming out there these days.

    i thought - we're paying 60+ dollars a month to channel surf!
    what a total waste!!
so as of today, the workers came and it's gone.
we're currently using a free trial of netflix - we'll see how that goes.

i'm looking forward to seeing the savings!

We got rid of our cable/internet/phone back in February, figured we had our phones, and lots of movies, and not to mention a newborn to take care of our spare time. Now we only miss it for the news!

we went 3 years without it.. didn't miss it at all.. however.. hubby was offered a 'deal' of cable for next to nothing for ONLY the channels we wanted as a trial offer. we can cancel at any time. so far we've had it about 6 months.. normally come summer the programs go off.. but now they are trying to boost their ratings i guess so alot of shows are continuing.. we shall see how long we hold out. BUT as hubby says.. life should never be scheduled around tv.

    yes - the news!
i will miss that for sure.
we can get news on the internet, but i prefer to watch it on tv.

we have old style cell phones with prepaid plans, so we still have our internet and land line.
if i could find a cheap alternative to our land line, i'd totally get rid of that as well.
    we barely use it.

We cancelled cable about 4 years ago. DH and I were going over our budget and we just looked at each other and said why do even have it? When we did have time to sit in front of the TV, it was usually to watch a DVD of some sort, not cable. So we got rabbit ears and then a few months ago we tried the Netflix free trial and the kids like it too so we still have it.

I do without cable too. I go online and reserve all kinds of entertainment on the library website and go with that, TV shows on the computer. Lots of news on internet and you can even watch the local TV news video a little after it is broadcast.

We were thinking of that, as it stands the tv is just a tool I use to put my 3 kids to sleep - no not their shows, I watch HGTV while they go to sleep During the day we watch videos or treehouse and most times I miss my shows and dh justs downloads them - I guess we have no need for it but I can't seem to cut it, we only pay $36 / mth so I just keep keeping it

We cut our cable off 2 years ago. Funny, I'm more informed now than when we used to watch the 'news'. We have old-style, pay as you go, cell phones, and a magicjack for our land line. Our internet connection covers all of our needs from phone, news, entertainment...We still get a few channels 'over the air' on our TV, but for the most part, it just sits there gathering dust.

We are considering cutting our phone as well and trying NetTalk Duo (www.nettalk.ca). It costs around $60 to buy (from Best Buy, Future Shop, Walmart) and includes your first year of service. Then service is around $30 a month. Its reviews are better than Magic Jack and it came recommended, to me, by someone who knows there stuff.

Now, if I could only cut the cable cord, I'd be all set!!
