Niagara College's greenhouse cat, Basil, has passed away!

I never knew of his existence and I was on campus in 2005. Pity to have missed seeing the cat.
Sunshine and furocoumarnins don't mix together!

The ordeal was a surprise to Prepchuk, but dermatologist and University of Alberta professor Dr. Jaggi Rao said he sees patients with the condition at least once a week.NOT A SUNBURN
"It's actually super common," Rao said. "It's not just due to limes, but what we call furocoumarnins."
The chemical compound is in a variety of fruits and vegetables including limes, lemons, celery, parsnip and parsley.
"By itself it doesn't cause any problems, but when you have high intensity UV light it will release oxygen radicals that cause an eczema to occur," he said.
oh what a gorgeous tabby!! Basil resembles our Hamlet. Hamlet ALSO owns this place just like Basil did at the Greenhouse.....some cats take command! R.I.P. sweet Basil!!Attachment 353276
Conservative environment plan would cost more and achieve less than Liberal government policies, report says
The environment plan the Conservative party claims will give Canada its “best chance” of meeting the country’s climate targets will actually cost more and achieve less than the policies of the Liberal government, according to a new analysis.
The report released Thursday was conducted by economists from EnviroEconomics and Canadians for Clean Prosperity to assess the Conservatives’ environment plan that the party says will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower costs.
The report comes to the opposite conclusion.

What we found is that for Canadians with incomes higher than the median for their province, families without children, households in urban areas, and males, the official CPI is not too far off of the cost of living experienced in these households. In contrast, for households with incomes below the median, families with children, households in rural locations and women, we find that their true cost of living has been increasing at rates as high as 10 per cent per year since 2010, well above the two per cent rate of increase in the official CPI.
So far, the landline phone monthly charge increased this month, the sewer rate went up, gas rate changes every 3 months. Don't forget the related HST charges that go along too.

Zombie fans-there's a new word for you: smombie (when you cross a smartphone with a zombie). In South Korea, smombies are causing city traffic planners to consider projecting crosswalk signals onto the ground to get pedestrians looking at their smartphones to notice the signals.

Trump appears in front of doctored seal with Russian and golf imagery
Charles Leazott, the 46-year-old graphic designer threw it together after the 2016 presidential election — it was one part joke, one part catharsis. He used to be a proud Republican. He voted for George W. Bush. Twice.
But Donald J. Trump’s GOP was no longer his party. So he created a mock presidential seal to prove his point.
The modified symbol was loaded with jabs at the president — subtle and overt.
The Russian eagle, an allusion to accusations that he embraced the Kremlin, and the Spanish script, a reference to Trump’s controversial border policies and his denigration of Latin American immigrants.
Instead of E pluribus unum — “out of many, one” — Leazott wrote “45 es un títere,” or “45 is a puppet,” a callback to a viral exchange between Trump and Hillary Clinton in a 2016 debate.
