Sad news for those of us in SK, but it's understandable since he's put in a lot of years of public service. He leaves an amazing legacy.

Man charged with murder after car rams counter-protesters at Neo-Nazi event in Virginia

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a car rammed into a group of people peacefully protesting against a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, killing one person and injuring 19.
In a separate incident, two police officers were killed when their helicopter crashed.
Police said the fatal victim of the car ramming was a 32-year-old woman and that they were attempting to notify her family before releasing more details.
Col Martin Kumer, the superintendent of Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, told the Guardian that 20-year-old James Fields of Ohio had been arrested following the attack.
“He has been charged with second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and failing to stop at an accident that resulted in a death,” Kumer said in an email.

Not even invisible posts anymore, eh Darth? Just back to nothing at all after you were told by the mods this site is not a news aggregator. Oh well, no wonder there's almost no posts here anymore.

    Sen McCain

“Our Founders fought a revolution for the idea that all men are created equal. The heirs of that revolution fought a Civil War to save our nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to that revolutionary proposition.
“Nothing less is at stake on the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia, where a violent attack has taken at least one American life and injured many others in a confrontation between our better angels and our worst demons.
“White supremacists and neo-Nazis are, by definition, opposed to American patriotism and the ideals that define us as a people and make our nation special.
“As we mourn the tragedy that has occurred in Charlottesville, American patriots of all colors and creeds must come together to defy those who raise the flag of hatred and bigotry.”
    Sen Cruz

On Facebook, he said it’s” tragic and heartbreaking to see hatred and racism once again mar our great Nation with bloodshed.”
“The Nazis, the KKK, and white supremacists are repulsive and evil, and all of us have a moral obligation to speak out against the lies, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and hatred that they propagate,” he stated.
He went on to address the driver that hit a crowd, leaving one dead.
“Having watched the horrifying video of the car deliberately crashing into a crowd of protesters, I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism,” he said.

At least me and the two senators agree on something.

The guy told him mom he was going to a Trump rally but it was really a Nazi rally. Same difference, I guess.

This kind of event is totally illegal, absolutely verboten, in Germany.

How to make friends and influence people...not a strong-suit for trump:

Kenneth Frazier, CEO of Merck Pharmaceuticals said in a statement: "America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy."

Within minutes, Trump attacked him on Twitter, saying Frazier's resignation will give him "more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!"

Now he's alienated the pharmaceutical industry....keep it up you dumb a$$!

yes @Lynn49 !! He was oh so quick to take that jab at Frazier but meanwhile wrt Virginia, directly after the violent clashes, 45 never bothered to call out the ANY of the hate groups by name.

Members from groups like skinheads, KKK, White Supremacists and the Neo Nazis had participated and they had all traveled from out of State to come to Virginia, securing a permit to have a peaceful protest.
They brought and carried weapons and shields, so not exactly sure how " peaceful " they intended it to be.

So, 45's pathetic statement insinuated those groups ( that I listed above ) are similar to the residents of Virginia.
The residents who came out on Saturday wanted to show those groups who had carried lit torches the night before while marching through their town that were not welcomed there.

No, these two groups are nowhere near the same.

Oh, @walkonby , I've been glued to that news even at camp (we had to get CNN! haha!)....his stupid statement after that horriffic car incident just saying that "many" groups are responsible. What an imbicile! Thank goodness there are more than a few republicans who called him out on it as well as the natural world! He was supposed to make another statement today but Fabricland was calling me. Did you also see that there was a tweet from one of those hate groups that said something like, 'oh, well, he didn't say WE did anything wrong, so he's on OUR side."??? Honestly!!!

That guy has to go, he just has to. I'm so hoping that Bob Meuller can bring him and his posse down!

Confederate plaque on Montreal's Hudson Bay store removed

The Hudson's Bay Company is removing a plaque from the company's flagship store in downtown Montreal that commemorates Jefferson Davis, who was president of the Confederate States during the U.S. Civil War.
"We are working this evening to have the plaque removed," wrote Tiffany Bourré, a spokesperson for HBC, in an email to CBC News Tuesday afternoon.
Calls to have the plaque removed emerged after a 32-year-old woman was killed in a deadly car attack on anti-racism protesters who were demonstrating against a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday. The man charged in the attack idolized Nazis, according to a former teacher.

The aftermath of the Charlottesville clashes have prompted many to look closer at Confederate monuments in their own neighbourhoods.
The Montreal plaque hangs on a wall of the HBC store on Union Avenue. Written in French, it says: "To the memory of Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States, who lived in 1867 in the home of John Lovell, which was once here."
It goes on to say it was first placed there in 1957 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a non-profit women's group dedicated to celebrating Confederate history.
I didn't know there were any Confederate monuments in Canada, guess you do learn something everyday.

FINALLY!!! Bannon is out! ha ha ha

Updated: 1:17 PM ET | Originally published: 12:57 PM ET

Steve Bannon is leaving the White House and his role as President Donald Trump's chief strategist.
Trump's Chief of Staff John Kelly and Bannon both agreed that Friday would be Bannon's final day in the role, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

"We are grateful for his service and wish him the best," Sanders said in a statement.

Bannon's ouster comes after weeks of controversy and staff changes at the White House. At the end of July, Reince Priebus was fired from his role as White House chief of staff and replaced by John Kelly. Kelly was reportedly reviewing Bannon's position, according to Axios.
Earlier this week, Bannon said his rivals in the government were "wetting themselves" in an interview with The American Prospect. He also apparently contradicted the president in the interview, saying "there's no military solution" to North Korea.

Bannon, former head of right wing Breitbart News, has been a controversial figure in Trump's inner circle from the start. He appeared on TIME's cover in February. You can read the cover story here.
