@Lynn49 I did not know about the Ukrainians interned during WWI nor the forced labour of Banff National Park (is this information on a plaque in the park for park visitors to read?). I found out Serbians were interned in WWI in Northern Ont by chance in an anniversary book put out by a church. Neither event was mentioned in Canadian history classes that I had.

@Ciel , like other less than proud moments in history, I doubt there's any sort of plaque commemorating that event. When I get on our computer I'll try to find info on that for you...I don't even like typing on this ipad! :/

@Natalka -that second photo-no trees on the horizon! I'd be rather anxious seeing a horizon without end (likely the source of those infinity edge pools popular at some hotels). How does one get used to kilometers of horizon?
When in Cuba on travel packages, travellers may discover the Rule of 10 (as in 10 times the purchase price) applied to broken or damaged hotel furnishings. Did you know about the rule prior to your Cuban holiday?

Instead, Goldrick said, the room would likely be without a TV for months as the hotel went through the lengthy process to import a new one into the country. However, Lukis disputes that, saying he saw similar televisions of the same size for sale in local stores and offered to buy one, but was told by the resort that it wouldn't accept it as a replacement.
He also said he and his girlfriend were not informed of the rule-of-10 policy when checking into the resort and were not informed of it in the introductory briefing held by the Sunwing respresentative.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

@Ciel , just so happens where I live in central SK, and the majority of other areas I've been to in the province are precisely like that - flat horizon. It's quite beautiful!
However, SK has tried hard to fight the myth that it's a 'flat' province, where you can see your lost dog run away for days... but we have amazing hills, buttes, desert, woodlands, forests, parklands, lakes, etc. in different parts of the province.

Was looking at Sunday or Monday Toronto Star and saw the full page colour ad about Hilary Rodham Clinton's speaking tour in Canada-Toronto stop on Sept. 28.
http://deepoceansky.com/
Then found out her former boss is speaking in Toronto on Sept. 29. Expect road closures or restrictions downtown.

Shame I'm nowhere near. I'd love t see Secretary of State Clinton or President Obama speak.
Mind you I wouldn't mind seeing President Clinton , President Carter , President GWH Bush or President GW Bush speak either.
However I would not go to see the current inhabitant of the White House or his family speak. No I wouldn't see President Trump.
But it is easy to show respect to the office they hold or held by using their correct title.

Myanmar: whole villages destroyed, Muslims escaping to Bangladesh
A SATELLITE map has unearthed the charred remains of entire communities as terrified residents claim they are the targets of a new-world genocide.
“Some people were beheaded, and many were cut. We were in the house hiding when [armed residents from a neighbouring village] were beheading people. When we saw that, we just ran out the back of the house,” said Sultan Ahmed, a 27-year-old man from the former Chut Pyin village in Myanmar.
Sultan is among a group of 1.1 million Rohingya Muslims that are often described as “the world’s most persecuted minority”.
Rohingya people have lived for centuries in the western state of Rakhine, in Myanmar, but for decades have been persecuted by the Myanmar government. They are not considered among the country’s 135 official ethnic groups. The country has even denied them citizenship since 1982 and the state is one of the poorest in the country.

Cassini:Saturn probe heads towards destruction
The US-led Cassini probe to Saturn will destroy itself in the coming hours.
The $4bn (£3bn) mission is ending 13 years of discoveries at the ringed planet by ditching itself in the atmosphere.
With an expected entry speed of 120,000km/h (76,000mph), the spacecraft will rapidly be torn to pieces.
Scientists, however, hope to gain new information on the chemical composition of Saturn's gases just before Cassini loses radio contact with Earth.
That is likely to occur just after 04:55 local time here at mission control - the Nasa Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California (11:55 GMT; 12:55BST).
It will be a bittersweet moment for the hundreds of mission researchers who have come from all over the world to be in the Los Angeles County town for the occasion.
Former US space agency chief scientist Ellen Stofan is part of the probe's radar instrument group.
"We've done amazing science; it's an amazing team. And I think we can celebrate that we've really eked every little bit of science that we could out of the Cassini spacecraft. But then it's what's next?
"We want to go back to Titan, we want to go back to Enceladus; there's so much we don't know about the interior of Saturn, so people have talked about Saturn probe missions. There's a lot more to be done," she told the BBC.

Terror attack on London underground: 29 people injured
An "improvised explosive device" was detonated on a Tube train in south-west London during Friday's morning rush hour, Scotland Yard has confirmed.
The blast, at Parsons Green station on a District Line train from Wimbledon, is being treated as terrorism.
Twenty-nine people have been treated in hospitals, mostly for burns, though at least eight have now been discharged.
A hunt for the person who placed the device is under way and the area around the station has been evacuated.
'Cowardly attack'
Specialist officers have been securing the remains of the improvised device and ensuring it is stable.
Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the "cowardly" attack, which she said had "intended to cause significant harm".
She said the UK's terror threat level would remain at severe - the second highest - but would be under review.
Speaking in Downing Street after chairing a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee, she said there would be an increased armed police presence on the transport network in London.
Hundreds of detectives and MI5 are investigating the attack, which took place at 08:20 BST on an eastbound train.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley earlier refused to say whether anyone had been arrested.

I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire
Now that Trump has denied the existence of and insulted me and my country in front of the eyes of the world and made the most ferocious declaration of a war in history that he would destroy the DPRK, we will consider with seriousness exercising of a corresponding, highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history.
Action is the best option in treating the dotard who, hard of hearing, is uttering only what he wants to say.
As a man representing the DPRK and on behalf of the dignity and honor of my state and people and on my own, I will make the man holding the prerogative of the supreme command in the U.S. pay dearly for his speech calling for totally destroying the DPRK.
This is not a rhetorical expression loved by Trump.
I am now thinking hard about what response he could have expected when he allowed such eccentric words to trip off his tongue.
Whatever Trump might have expected, he will face results beyond his expectation.
I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged U. S. dotard with fire.
