I'm hoping someone here can help me. We plan on visiting the Netherlands and will have use of a nephew's vehicle. Does anyone know if we would have to purchase additional insurance to cover ourselves or is this included with his car insurance. We've heard of people swapping homes/cars for vacations and I wonder how auto insurance is affected....

Your car insurance won't cover you outside of North America. I would suggest that your nephew looks into his auto insurance coverage.

You will also need that international driving permit. Details on the CAA site:

It would be worthwhile to ask your insurance broker about riders for international driving. It is likely there is a service available if you are willing to pay the fee for it, like travel insurance.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Thanks all for your replies. In the meantime we have returned from our trip to the Netherlands. We were able to borrow a nephew's car and he made sure it had the proper insurance.
