So, SCers that bought and planted those special Canada 150 bulbs: what colours resulted when the tulips popped up in your garden(s) this spring?
Was orange a predominant colour? https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ne...-petals/81869/
I was looking for seeds. Thank you so much to solve my problem.
A great time to stock up on heirloom seeds for next year. :-)

Seedy Saturday in Hamilton will be held on February 3, 2018! Vendors, groups and a cafe.
Details http://greenventure.ca/community/events/seedysaturday/
There is a seed swap table. Please read the following information.
Quote:
Seedy Saturday is quickly approaching. When attendees come in the main event is the seed swap table. Our goal is to have some seeds on our table when we open the doors. If you have seeds that you have saved we would appreciate any you can offer to us beforehand. Heritage, open pollinated, heirloom varieties are wonderful because we are trying to preserve the genetic diversity of the plants on our planet. We also appreciate any plants that you have grown yourself. They can be ornamental or food. Tubers, roots or bulbs are also great additions
There are some amazing garlic farms in Canada! Dozens of varieties of bulbs (and bulbils) to choose from. Some of these businesses also sell products, such as garlic salt, garlic powder, and books. Tons of information about how to grow, cure, and store your garlic is available on these sites.
Enjoy!

I'm sure there are many more to be discovered. Feel free to add any you find. :-)
Canadian Tire, Fortinos and Lowes all have seed displays in stores. Have not been by Home Hardware but it's very likely the OSC seeds and other brands are out on spindle displays too.
There is a lady on THIS facebook group who is selling heirloom tomato seeds from her own garden ($3 per pack) as a fundraiser in support of Crohn's and Colitis Canada. :-) If interested, she asks that you send her a private message via Facebook.
The varieties she has for sale are:

I never knew tomato seeds got named after other fruits or attractions or popular culture!
We are 1st gardener, we just secured an alotment with the city of Toronto. We have little knowledge and less gardening tools and no plants.
I feel bad asking...if anyone has extra veggie plants, soil etc, it would be greatly appreciated!!!
We can pick up in Toronto, Etobicoke, Richmond Hill, Maple, Thornhill, Woodbridge and Concord Areas.
We have a 10x20 plot right now and it may double in size. Any sugguestion, knowledge, directions is so so appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance!!!!
Hi @heylids ! I am not in Toronto, but I know that there are many branches of the Toronto Seed Library there, if you would be interested in getting free seeds to grow in your garden plot. There is information about how to use the seed library under the heading, "ABOUT" at the top of the page. :-) They also have a Facebook page.
You're in luck! It is not too late to grow the following from seed:
Summer Squash (zucchini, yellow straightneck, scallop, etc)
Snap beans (the bush variety)
Dry beans for soups, casseroles, etc (the bush variety)
Kale, lettuce, Swiss Chard, collards
Beets
Carrots (if you plant soon!)
Peas (bush/dwarf - if you plant soon!)
Cucumber (if you plant soon!)
I garden in zone 2, so if these things will grow from seed for me up here, I am pretty sure they will do well for you in Ontario. Planting transplants gives you produce more quickly, but if you can't find free transplants, free seeds might be the next best option. ;)
Don't know any other places but mom's seeds
A place I just learned about, based in Nova Scotia, that offers heirloom vegetable, flower, and herb seeds is called, "Yonder Hill Farm". I like the clean, simple look of their website.
Sorry - just saw this - but there are ‘seedy’ meetings all over the place - just had one in the Niagara area
Maybe check this site out https://www.seeds.ca/events

Niagara on the Lake library has a ‘seed library’. Free to all and you don’t need to be a member. Maximum 3 packets per family

Here is a neat Kickstarter for new varieties of artisanal/open-pollinated tomato seeds (including some Canadian varieties at the higher levels of pledging). It ends October 12th.
:icon_flower: This is a great list of Canadian sources of seeds, seed potatoes, garlic, fruit, etc. :canada:
Not sure how you'd get rose seeds-aren't they the rose hips of the flowers? Or a small plant from a rose grower might do if s/he does not have any rose hips from their plants to share.

Fortinos visit today-outside the floral dept. are two seed racks from Bertons and Burpee. I need to take 5min to see if there's something I'd like to sow in the garden come March. (Garlic plantings are 4 months in the ground already-exciting!)
Fortinos Ancaster-The Burton seed display carton was 2/3 empty. Someone placed the display next to greeting cards in the floral dept. Think many shoppers are trying their gardening skills this year. There were still lots of Burpee seed packets in its display carton.
I want to buy magnolias. I did not find seedlings in local stores. Can you tell me a good store where you can see seedlings and can choose something interesting.
Rainbow Seeds has FREE SHIPPING on all orders at the moment. :-)
I order my sprouting seeds from Mum's seeds. I specifically like sprouting mung beans (traditional bean sprouts), Sandwich booster mix and Salad mix.
In our area, a couple of years ago and probably ongoing - the libraries had set up ‘seed libraries’. You could choose (i think it was 3 ) envelopes of the seeds you wanted. Great news - if you had a library card with one library - but the seeds were in another library nearby - you could use your card. The Niagara on the lake did not ask for proof of my card in the Niagara system
