Yeah, but with the economic sh*thole Spain is in today... tourist areas and bigger corporations all seem to want to move towards an "Americanized" work day.... I'll bet that'll be some culture shock if it happens

On a side note.. I wonder..... when all those Walmarts convert to SuperCenters.... does that give them the ability to circumvent the 5pm closing time on weekends because they sell a greater percentage of food ? Inquiring minds....
Walmart doesn't have to close at 5pm on weekends but, they do have to respect the maximum employee rules. Even as a supercenter, I dn't see how they could stay open with 4-5 employees. I also can't see it being profitable for them if they were allowed the extra employees.... unless they closed during regular work hours when the stores are least busiest .
I work evenings, finishing work at 11pm during the week.
I would love it if we had some 24-hr supermarkets in Quebec. It would save me so much time and gas if I could do my shopping on the way home from work.
I think that some of the 24 hour Walmarts in Ontario actually scaled back their hours. Not enough traffic to warrent opening up the store for the extra hours to conveniance a few customers.
While I love to go to the mall on Saturday evenings when we're spending the week-end shopping in Plattsburgh & Burlington, I totally support our current laws. I think our government here babysits us too much, but really, it seems like "good sense" won't prevail without it. Long opening hours are not increasing sales, it's just increasing the cost of doing business. We don't need to go shopping all the time, nowadays people don't know what to do if they can't go to the mall spend an afternoon. Can't we find another hobby as a society?
I think I should interject here to say that I was a student and working as a cashier in a grocery store when the hours changed to include Wednesday evenings and Sundays. I liked it because I could work more hours and make money while going to school.
I think that a lot of students would like to have the opportunity to work while going to school. If stores opened more hours, they could work.
Yup, i'm from new york. Malls don't usually close until 9-10pm on the weekend. I'm no shopaholic, but i enjoyed having the choice to go chill at a mall and look around once and awhile...I could understand stores closing early during the weekdays (because thats when the majority of people work), but on the weekend?!? ;(
oh well... no more sleeping in for me :lolsign:
Yes here they are open until 10pm so groceries can be done every night. Super C and Maxi are open until 9. Sami fruit is open until 8
I remember many years ago, some banners (IGA?) try to open stores for 24h. They don't last very long that way.
My feelings are exactly the same. At the beginning I found it really weird that malls and stores closed so early. I'm used to a more buzzing environment where you find a lot more activity on the streets till 11pm or midnight.
Anyway, one ends up getting used to this new reality.
