writing poetry makes me happy!!
Shell out, shell out the Witches are out, is what we used to say,
Around the block & up the street as we masqueraders made our way,
Armed with a pillow case & a Unicef Box with the moon as our tour guide,
Princesses & spooky make up that looked just bona fide!
Broomsticks, fangs & cobwebs & pumpkins on the porch,
Mysterious & spooky oh those hair-raising screams so loud they almost scorch!
Little devils & fairies, perhaps a scarecrow or two,
Cauldrons, monsters & spider webs give a gruesome cry of boo!
Blackcats, mummies & elf’s & ghouls with those wax fangs,
Ghosts, magic wands & goodies to satisfy those hunger pangs,
Stopping off at home to unload & go back out for more,
The house that gave out caramel apples; a kid could not ask for more!
Going out with your friends made Halloween all the more exciting,
Examining your haul dumped on your bed, though cavities may be inciting,
Happy Halloween one & all, be safe & watch out for skeletons & trolls,
& if you are brewing a potion over the fire, remember to stir the coals!

p.s. remember those masks that had a very flimsy piece of uncomfortable elastic that usually broke? They blocked your line of vision!
* Just a footnote about lines of vision & sensible Halloween behaviour...a couple of years ago I saw a young gal dressed up in a great Princess Leia costume who was trying to text, & navigate while trick or trating. She ended up tripped on the curb & falling breaking her phone. Her Mum told me a couple of weeks later that she had a hairline fracture on her elbow. Leave your phones at home kids!!

Aw.... enjoy! I remember how hard that was in the early years of our marriage when my husband would be gone for two or three weeks at a time... and it was in the olden days when there was just the phone and long distance calls were expensive, it was SO difficult.
I think it's amazing now with internet, FB, Skype - it's so much better for couples apart!
Well, I'm very HAPPY to be back on the computer and here on SC, catching up!
I'm happily ignoring any boxes which need unpacking.... for a little while, anyway!
