I think it's funny that we take out the garbage, while Americans take out the trash, we use serviettes and they use napkins, we go to the washroom while they use restrooms. Also for treats, we eat chocolate bars and they eat candy bars, we drink pop and they drink soda. And they still don't put vinegar on french fries..... crazy! LOL

And I agree with the foyer and niche.... drives me nuts

Marry-OTT?? I've always heard it pronounced as marry-it and say it the same way too.

That would be a "harbor" (have to use the American spelling on this thread)

The way some of them pronounce Police sends Dh and I into giggles...Po-lease. And how some say "dat" instead of "that". If you ever want a laugh, just watch American Rednecks talking!!

I don't think that American. I think its certain people who pronounce it that way. In my town there are a few ... if I go to Toronto there are loads of people who say it like that.

I think they say po-lease in the Irish Rovers' song "Wasn't that a Party?"

They're a Canadian group, though I think they're all originally from Ireland... they're using American terms in the song, so they seem to be doing a parody of rednecks:

    It's amusing!!! I love accents! :D

And Southern Accents are the cutest, that'd be why I married my husband

After my Mom passed my Dad married a lady from Tennessee. I told her I loved her accent because it sounded so cultured. Am I the hugest suckup, or what?

Funny how people's perception of an accent can be so different! Honestly, I have a hard time seeing past a southern accent! I even struggle with the frequent use of the word "ma'am" because I'm always thinking they're being wry or sarcastic or making fun of me! Generally, a Canadian being so syrupy warm in their speech would be joking!

My husband's cousin had a lovely girlfriend from somewhere in the Carolinas for quite a few years. She was smart and practical, was a professor with a PhD, and was an absolutely wonderful person. We saw her a few times a year, and while on a rational level I knew she wasn't trying to make a fool of me, for a long time, it felt like I was so guarded that my shoulders felt like they were up around my ears!
