I get it, but what I don't get is that no one called me ma'am until I was 35. So now I'm irritated when someone calls me that.

I remember the first time I was called ma'am by a 16 year old cashier - I was mortified. It was the first time I realized I wasn't classified as the same age as him anymore (I'm 26 and look mid-twenties so it isn't like I look 39 when I am actually 25 or so).
My husband is American, from the Chicagoland area. And his parents are from Missouri....I hear all sorts of strange words, lol.
They still think how I talk is "cute" though, lol. And even after many years will giggle when I say eh.
I went to Cuba with my husband, cousin, and his wife this past December and met up with a fantastic brother and sister from London, England (they said they lived within walking distance of Buckingham palace) as well as another older coulple from Alberta. We'd get together every night and the only thing that caught me off gaurd between the four of us, was the Albertian's (am I saying that right?) accent, especially the husbands. Everything was F****** EH! and he sounded almost exactly like how american tv shows show case Canadians and their accents. He was a riot to listen to, and quite frankly, I LOVED hearing him talk.
Lately I've been hearing people say 'fir' instead of 'for', and have needed to start correcting my 6 yr old as he's picked up on it.
My husband is a mechanic and has needed to start correcting the other mechanics in the shop for saying rAdiater (which is american) instead of radiator (which is Canadian).
I believe the americans say vase while I have always heard it as vaz (is this correct though? I do hear it interchangeable though too)
I am quite enjoying this thread!!!
