Hi Ehcan,
Both my son and husband have Ipads, the 2 major diffences between the ipads are space and wether they are 3G capable (use same tech as cells) or are just wifi capable. To start with go with the ipad 3 the ipad 2 only comes in 16gb space (the amount of stuff you can store on it.) I went with the largest 64gb It sound like a lot but with all the apps movies and music avaliable it goes fast spending alittle extra for the space was well worth it. As for the 3g or wifi issue I am not sure how old your son is but in my case I only went with the Wifi. 3G is similiar to a cell plan were you pay a certian amount each month for the service but you have limited data you can download using it and after that it gets very expensive. With all the spots that have free wifi (tims, mcdonalds ect) Out in public 3g is not really nessecary. As for in your home if you are not already hooked up to wifi you can just buy an inexpensive router at bestbuy (or were ever) and hook it up to your internet and your home is wifi (password protected of course). I hope this helps alittle good luck IPads are awsome, now if only I could get one lol

I would go for the wifi only plan too. 3g could get very pricey. I have an ipad2 - got it at Futureshop when there was a sale on. They very rarely go on sale but this was just about before the ipad3 came out. I am happy with the ipad2 so far. But I am sure the ipad3 has more bells and whistles. Good luck ehcan!

i have an 64G ipad2 with wifi capability that I use primarily for school purposes. It works great and I have a ton of videos and music on it. Once purchased you may want to look into purchasing a stylus and case with a keyboard..assuming that your son would like to use it for school too...then he can type notes and hand write notes and annotate documents - like if his teacher gives him a power point presentation he can highlight points, draw on them, write his own notes in the margins etc.
Ipad3 has a better display and camera and weights just a tiny bit more. To me paying the extra money to get the ipad3 was not worth it.
If he needs it for university check the apple site. I think they have a deal for university students.Last edited by frugalkitty; Sat, Jul 28th, 2012 at 12:53 PM.
