My darling 5 year old step son and I went for our weekly Sunday shopping
adventure to SDM..We were walking across the parking lot, then suddenly he
let go of my hand and started running to the left..pure horror hit me, knowing
how busy that place is..I saw him run up to a car, where an older lady was down on her knees..I ran over as quickly as I could-just in time to see him grab her hand--"Here Grammy, I'll help you up!" ...helped the woman to her feet, and then he quickly began picking up all of the contents of her purse that had spilled all over the ground. This poor lady was in utter disbelief...that a small kid had such a big heart! She kept hugging him, saying "thank you sweet boy-thank you!" ...he eventually she asked, "Why did you call me grammie?" He looked right at her, tilted his head and said, "All pretty old ladies are grammies...thats how God makes them!" I could not contain myself-and obviously neither could she-we both laughed so hard, tears were coming down our faces! I have NO idea how this kid comes up with some of the things he says--but I'll be darned-he truly believes every word he speaks! We headed into the store, our new Grammie along side of us, and through conversation- came to find out, she was caring for her 2 year old Granddaughter while her parents were serving over seas. I am 30-and with 2 step sons (5 and 7 years old) they exhaust me, how 71 year old woman is caring for a toddler is completely beyond me! As we passed the baby aisle, she went to get some diapers- I reached into my purse and gave her a huge stack of coupons--I have no use for them-and insisted she take them all, I like to know they are being put to good use! No sooner did I do that- she rummaged in her purse and pulled out 10 coupons for 6packs of pepsi products, buy one get one free and literally pushed them into my purse, she said-"I am a coke girl- TAKE THEM!"
Not only did I leave the store with a cart over stuffed with merchandise, but I left with the most warm heart imaginable! Now my kid has a new Grammie, and is going to visit her next weekend! I don't think I could have been more proud of that little guy-for springing into action to help someone in need-at 5 years old....I think us adults could learn thing or two from our kids! =)This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart
