Looks like it may be a direct hit.
I can never understand how people can live in these areas along the coast. I know it is beautiful down there, but the stress every time a hurricane formed would drive me nuts.

And they are going to get a nasty storm surge....Last edited by i_forget; Mon, Aug 27th, 2012 at 10:11 AM.

That is completely brutal! I feel sick just thinking about it. . . . but as saddlebag pointed out, it is something they know they have to expect. Hopefully, it is small enough that they can handle it. I'm sure they're far more prepared this time round.

Nola is going to handle it just fine this time. In 2005 half the city was like a refugee camp before the storm hit. Now it is gone. New Governor too. It may actually benefit the city to get hit again and prove to the world Louisiana and Nola has finally grown up.
p.s. When I was living near the TX/LA border a few years ago, I read that a parish in LA had finally got phone service, the last place in north america that did not have it. In 1992 the ex governor completed his prison sentence in time to run for Governor again and won. Half that state used to be backwards, not any more. I LOVED the way it used to be.

Officially upgraded from tropical storm to hurricane.
12:30 PM EDT, Tue August 28, 2012
(CNN) -- Isaac reached hurricane status Tuesday as it closed it on the Gulf Coast, threatening to deluge parts of the region with huge amounts of rain.
Maximum sustained winds were at 75 miles per hour, just strong enough to give the storm hurricane status, as of 11:20 a.m. CT, the National Hurricane Center said.
It could make landfall by evening, the center said.
