DD has changed her mind a few times so far (was wanting to be a cupcake, cat, etc) but now I think she's settled on Tinkerbell. I'll be making her a green tutu style dress and she has white wings already. I'm hoping mine will turn out like this one:
Not sure what DS will be yet, guess it depends what I find that I like. lol.

Kids costumes are so easy to make. For the person whose child wants to be a dumptruck, paint some boxes and give him a hard hat. Easy peasy.
Batman can be a slightly oversized longsleeved black shirt with either a cut up piece of foam for the chest and arm muscles or nothing, and some black pants, a piece of light black fabric for the cape, a mask and the logo printed, laminated with tape and pinned on.
I am so cheap with costumes. My costume last year and this year is a GIGANIC wedding dress I scored for a dollar and dyed pink with cherry koolaid. I have super long hair and pretty square-fingered gloves, so I can pull off 'princess' fairly well. I pinned the train up, it's like three feet long at least. It's kinda neat, all the detailing didn't dye, it stayed white. It's honestly kind of beautiful.
And I remember as a kid my sister wanted to go as a princess, my mom found her a little white satin dress with satiny roses on the lower back, poufy sleeves and a little tiara. She loved the CRAP out of that dress and wore it a hundred times. Total cost to my mom was probably under $5.Last edited by Chantel; Wed, Sep 26th, 2012 at 11:14 PM.

My 3yr old DS is going to be Elmo which was $22.97 at WM. I used some money I made from selling the kids old clothes online so it wasn't oop. My 22 month old DS will be a monkey which was his brother's old costume from a few years ago. It was bought at Childrens Place for like $20 something minus 30% off so it was likely between $20-$25 then.
Usually I am able to sell they boys old costumes online or through a consignment store for $10-$15 each. Makes the fun of dressing up that much easier!Want to keep fit while earning incentives like Scene Points? Join Carrot Rewards using my personal code: rosaw3424

I am making my grand daughter a Merida costume from the movie Brave. It will be perfect she has long red wavy hair so just the dress and I had some blue velvet in my fabric stash.I better get on it! Oh and I am sure my 23 and 30 year old daughters will be over to rummage in the huge trunk of Halloweens past to put something together!! My 14 year old son wants to go to the dance as Vince the ShamWow guy.I guess will put a head set microphone on him and I will embroider Shamwow on a polo shirt!!!

I put the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume DS wore last year up on Kijiji, someone's coming to get it tonight. I bought it after Halloween the year before for about $5, and I'm getting $12 for it. DS gets the money for his piggy bank.

I have no clue what my two oldest are dressing up as. One says she isn't going out but I think she may end up dressing up and hanging out with friends and go to a few houses. But she is 17 so I think her days of trick or treating are coming to an end. My 13 year old is going as hobo. We took and old pair of jeans of mine and cut the legs down to fit him, an old shirt of mine and sewed patches on. Then I took coco powder to make them look dirty. I think my youngest is going as an army guy. He has clothes that have a camo print and I use makeup to dirty up his face. Even the service dog is getting dress up as a fairy complete with a tutu and wings that will light up once I sew lights on them. She even has her own custom trick or treat pail that I made last year.
We have a rule in the house that a costume has to be mainly homemade and only a few dollar store things to add to it. We have bought lots of costumes in the past and still have bits and pieces left over so the kids just raid those. Plus my daughter uses parts from her competition outfits from baton. I don't think I have spent more than $20 for all three kids in the past few years. Not All Disabilities Are Visible. Proud owner of a medical alert wonder pup.
