What a difference a year makes!!

On this day last year I gambled for the last time! I had been a gambling addict for 24 years at that point (from the ages of 15-39) and had squandered so much money through those years - it makes me sick to think about the tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars I just threw away!! I wasn't sure I could keep myself out of the casino/bingo hall for a day, much less a whole year, but as I approached forty I just knew I had to make a change in my life.

Shortly after vowing to give up gambling I found couponing and boy what a godsend that was!! I dove right into it...learning as much as I could as fast as I could. I had a binder full of coupons within a month and had started to build a stock pile. I felt a rush getting a good deal and saving money - a better rush than gambling ever gave me!! Now here I am one year later and I cannot even fathom throwing away even one dollar gambling - I mean come on there are so many great things I can pick up for a dollar using my coupons!!!:lol:

I am really proud of myself today and just had to share!!:-)

That is an excellent way to get the same sort of thrill, but this time it's saving/making you money every single time! What an amazing story, thank you for sharing!!

You should be proud of yourself and I am proud of you! I have spoken to a few former gambling addicts through work and it is so hard for them to kick gambling to the curb so you have an amazing accomplishment. Did you do it all on your own or did a program help you?

I have done it on my own using sheer willpower and determination. The couponing certainly helped me to appreciate the value of a dollar, a concept that I never really grasped up to that point and it certainly has been a healthier habit to have :)
