Hi all: I am hoping that someone can shed a bit of light on something that I've been experiencing. Wednesday noon I was gardening, slipped off a shovel while trying to get a root out of the ground and did something to my ankle. It was ok at first - I walked it off so I thought, but a few hours later the pain became intense. Went to Emergency that evening and x-rays didn't show any obvious break but a 'possible' bone chip. The pain has lessened considerably but I have to be very careful how I move my foot.

I'm wondering, if you experienced anything like this, if you would post how long the healing actually took. Not looking for sympathy lol...just some advice. Thankfully, I'm able to negotiate the stairs very carefully but need my boys to lug the laundry up to the deck for me to hang outside.

I fell when I was pregnant and really did a number on my ankle. They said it wasn't broken, just to stay off it and then be careful.

A few month later, I had DS and it still hurt so I went back to my doctor who sent me for X-rays and they showed a bone chip. I was then sent to the specialist and he said that it's not sereve enough for surgery and perscribed Physio and a brace (which I hated and didn't wear).

It's been about 18 months since I tripped and I'd say it's about 90% healed. It still hurts sometimes, mostly if I twist it or stand the wrong way or if it's really rainy (seems to ache then). It's not fun but it's much better than it was.

I wish you a super speedy recovery. And my only advice would be to really watch what you do, it's great your boys are lugging things for you! But unforunately you do have to keep it moving to recover - I hated that part. Especially jumping on the little trampoline. It hurt but it supposedly really helps. It might be worth asking you Dr. for a list of exercises you can do at home to help speed up the recovery.

Thanks for your reply. My ankle has slowly improved - definitely not where it used to be but functional enough that I am even walking stairs...going down is more of a problem but I'm managing. I do suspect a bone chip as well - I think if there was a hairline crack, which is something the doctor said is a possibility, I would have more pain.

I've never had a bone chip before. If your still in pain I would seek out medical attention, a second opinion. I hope it heals soon.
