The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a warning Monday about various beef products that have been recalled due to possible contamination with E. coli.
The meat was used in products like burgers, meatloaf and sliders under the Kirkland Signature and Safeway brands, sold all over Canada. Edmonton-based XL Foods manufactures the products.

This is why cows should not be fed corn! Stop supporting this practice!!! Buy GRASS fed only! Don't be fooled by the marketing in stores, corn is so bad for cows and us.
E. coli 0157:H7 has only recenty appeared on the scene. First isolated in the 1980s, this pathogen is now found in the intestines of most U.S. feedlot cattle. The practice of feeding corn and other grains to cattle has created the perfect conditions for microbes to come into being that can harm and kill us. As Michael Pollan explains:
“Most of the microbes that reside in the gut of a cow and find their way into our food get killed off by the acids in our stomachs, since they originally adapted to live in a neutral-pH environment. But the digestive tract of the modern feedlot cow is closer in acidity to our own, and in this new, manmade environment acid-resistant strains of E. coli have developed that can survive our stomach acids — and go on to killl us. By acidifying a cow’s gut with corn, we have broken down one of our food chain’s barriers to infections.”From: http://www.johnrobbins.info/blog/grass-fed-beef/

Gah, about the ground beef - I always buy the big packs, then repackage them, so I had to think really, really hard about the dates. I suppose maybe I should check past receipts, I should have them.
I buy ground beef only at Sobey's or Co-op - but haven't bought any in Sept. - mind you some of those dates go back into Aug.
From now on, I'm going to label with the date and store bought when I repackage!

Why are the Costco brands not listed? Did I miss something, Natalka?
Ah...nevermind, I see it in the original link.....thanks, Natalka!
Thank you KrazE, FP...nothing here, thank goodness.....nope...hold your horses...we did re-package lean ground beef from Costco! So naturally we don't have the label....what to do? I can't remember when we did it, but it wasn't long ago..
.I think there's one pkg left...I guess it's getting tossed..although we did have the other two re-packaged ones? What to do??!!!Last edited by Lynn49; Wed, Sep 19th, 2012 at 11:37 AM.

Thank you, FP....it wasn't more than a couple of weeks ago...but we did eat the other 2 packages of the 3 I separated...and we're fine....but I will ask hubby to go there and find out if it's part of the stock we're to pitch.
Thank you! Oh! I can also check our Amex!
