Last night I went into the Sobeys in Niagara Falls to purchase a few things. When I was cashing out, two cashiers were having a conversation and didn't speak to me once other than to give me my price, and to ask for my payment. I have been in customer service for years and am shocked at the quality of employees companies allow. If I was the manager there I would have disiplined them both right on the spot.

I worked for sobeys for years.....it surprises me to see now how slack staff are now....we had to be super polite and helpful all the time....as a customer you may or may not get a hi...and thank you.....sometimes I think even a kiss my a$$ would be nicer than being ignored......oh well everyone can't be as perfect as us couponers....lol

Pay people a crappy wage, you will undoubtedly get crappy service from them. Unfortunately this is a trend in big retail chains nowadays.

I just have to defend the cashiers at Sobey's in Grand Bend as they are awesome, especially Janice. Management is awesome too.

When cashiers are like that I always say "sorry, did I interrupt your job"?

I do not let things like that bother me. These people are being paid app $10/hour. As long as they do their job, are not rude to the customers, and help out with questions and requests, then I have no problem if they're talking.

I tend to agree. If the are willing to stop talking as soon as I approach for help, it is okay. Ive been there and know how fun a work day is. As well, 10 dollars an hour does not even get people out of the poverty line or low income as Statistics Canada calls it.
