1 c. salt
1 c. flour
1 c. water
a healthy squirt of food coloring or tempera paint.

Homemade Puffy Paint with 3 Simple Ingredients :)
Base Recipe
1 cup flour
1 cup salt
1/2-3/4 cup water
Mix the ingredients until you have the desired consistency. We don't like it too watery, or it gets the paper wet and dries flat. If it is too thick it won't fit through the opening of the squeezy bottle. Mix it well then separate it according to the number of colors you plan to make. Color can be added in many ways: food coloring, liquid watercolors, tempura paint, powdered paint. I most often use food coloring, so my toddlers can safely play with the paint. Spoon the colored paint into squeezy bottles, and get to creating!
Squeezy bottles are great for fine motor practice, and they are just plain fun
Leave paintings flat overnight to dry. They will remain raised and firm.
Please note this is for paper not the kind for clothes cause it will wash out

1. Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring consistently, until it is too thick to stir with a spoon.

Once you have molded it, it will take 1-2 days for the clay to dry. The length of time depends on how thick your craft is: If it is a flat ornament, it may only take 1 day, if it is thick it will take much longer. This clay can be painted with either Tempera or acrylic craft paints.

What you will need:
2 cups of plain flour
2 cups of water with black and blue food coloring
1 Tbsp. of cooking oil
1 Tbsp. cream of tartar
1 cup of salt
glitter - silver, purple, blue or any color you like
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix liquid ingredients in a large pan. (FYI: I found black food coloring in a large size at Big Lots - so I added the entire bottle! I added a small bottle of blue food coloring. It made the dough so deep and rich!) Begin to heat liquids.
In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients. Add to the heating liquids. Stir until the dough gathers and thickens. Cook until it gets that sheen to it. Let it cool slightly and then knead to bring proper consistency. Store in plastic container

Homemade Gluten-Free Play Dough :)
1 cup rice flour (I used brown rice because that’s what I had)
1 cup cornstarch
1 cup salt
2 cups water (warm)
2 teaspoons oil
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients together in saucepan, cook on low heat, stirring occasionally for at least 5 minutes or until it forms a ball. Don’t be worried if it is really watery, just keep stirring until it starts to form a “dough ball”
Color Options:
Food Coloring
Food Gel (such as Wilton’s)
Suger-Free Kool Aid (this adds a nice smell to the dough too)
When the dough has cooled off slightly divide into small balls and work in the coloring of choice with hands. I used a combo of Kool Aid and Food Gel. You can find food gel at your local craft store in the cake aisle. I had a lot and the girls wanted pink so the gels worked better. If you are using the gel, it doesn’t take much to achieve the color. If using Kool Aid the colors will be subtle, but your play dough will smell yummy!
If you opt for food coloring or the gel and still want your dough to smell nice you can use scented oils, like lavendar or other calming type oils. That way the kids stay super relaxed when playing with their play dough, wink.
Once you have made your play dough colors, wrap them up in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container. I happen to find these little containers around the house. They used to hold paint, which had actually dried out so it was great to re-use for the play dough.

DIY Egg Shaped Sidewalk Chalk ~Frisky :)
To make your own sidewalk chalk, you will need the following items:
Plaster of Paris
Powdered Tempura Paints
Water
Silicone baking molds
Drop cloth
Spoon or wooden paint stirrer
Plastic containers for mixing
Step 1: In a plastic container, mix together 1 1/2 cups plaster of paris, 1 cup of water and 2-3 Tablespoons of the powdered tempura paint in the color of your choice. The mixture should be the consistancy of a runny milkshake.
Step 2: Pour the plaster of paris mixture into the molds. I used egg shaped molds but you could use any shape you want.
Step 3: Let mixture sit in molds for about an hour. Test to see if the chalk is ready to be removed from the molds by touching the top with your finger. It should feel hard to the touch...if your finger leaves a print or indentation, the chalk is not ready to be removed. When the mixture is ready, the chalk should easily slide out of the mold. I found that the silicone molds are fabulous for this...you can push the chalk pieces up and out of the mold by pushing up on the bottom of each egg.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 to make chalk in additional colors. We made four colors and then did some eggs in white as well.
