Will your vet take it back? Give it to a neighbor?

I've seen people give away partially used bags on freecycle or kijiji.

Check with your animal shelter to see if they will take an opened bag.

If it is a veterinary brand, the vet's office will normally take the bag back for a full refund even if it is opened. I would call the vet to ask.

If the vet won't take it back you could always donate it to the humane society or another local animal charity. When my kitty Sherry died I returned the food that I could (unopened tins and one expensive bag from the vet that we'd tried), and all of the other sample bags and ones I had bought that couldn't be returned got donated to a local animal rescue group that will happily take partial bags of food. I did the donation through my local Pet Valu store, so you might want to check with local pet stores to see if there is a charity that'd take it.
