Fostering

Anyone here foster a pet? How is it? Is this your first? Where did he/she come from? (Kill shelter, abusive home, SPCA..ect)

I have fostered close to 40 cats, mostly kittens in the last few years. The first 4 pics are of my own cats, the rest of some of my clients

For a while, I was a rest stop for pups on their way to foster/forever families. I also babysat pups that were working dogs for disabled folks who were in hospital & had no one to care for the pups. I got way too attached to one pup in particular (he stayed with me for over 6 weeks) - it broke my heart when I had to send him back home.

I also helped my roommate find homes for 13 cats (yep, Lily dog is a cat rescuer who played with the stray cats in my back alley & convinced them to come home with us). #14 was a feral kitten that the local no-kill shelter told me to either put back out after I spend $ neutering him (this was the middle of a nasty winter storm) or have him euthanized. It took a month, but now Quincy cat is my jealous boyfriend who I cart around in a purse. :P

Yep, I'm a failed foster parent. :)

I know FallenPixels has fostered cats. She's a Hero. SHe's taken in at least one cat that absolutely no one wanted. . .it just breaks my heart thinking about it. I think it's a good thing I'm married or I would have at least a dozen running around the house. I have 3 rescues (2 dogs, 1cat) and the progeny of 1 of them(1 15 lb cat and complete brat :) . . .that's probably my max I'm afraid. . . as much as I'd love to. . .

I prefer to think of your home as rest stop and Quincy just built his own permanent addition to it. :)

Once I move out, you have no idea how quick i'm filling out the foster applications!

Nope. I couldn't do it. I would want to keep them all. But good on you guys for doing it! :flowers:

I'd love to foster, but our current living situation isn't ideal. I'm so afraid I'd fall in love & wouldn't be able to let them go.. ;)

I currently have a foster doggie named Zoey she is 5 and super sweet but she is a bit of a nervous biter so I am working on that with her. She was at the vet today for dental surgery/nail clipping and fixing up her tattoo..Zoey is currently sleeping in her basket in my room SNORING and I can't sleep ....

What breaks my heart most about fostering is 3 times a cat that obviously a pet (because they had a collar) has come across my path, and I tried hard to find the owners but could not. Ended up having to find them a new home :(

But did manage to reunite a few cats!!

I can't do it anymore. My heart has been broken too many times. Anyone else that crosses our path now either gets help without coming here or stays forever.

My "god-cat" (pretty little Siamese who moved into my friend's backyard & got threatened by the bully neighbourhood raccoons) nearly became my roommate. My friend went into debt to create a basement apt for her (basement was already finished, but doors needed to be put into place, since the pet bunny has full run of the upstairs - no cage - & is skittish around other critters). When I took her to my vet to get scanned (I fully expected her to be chipped), the vet discovered a medical condition. So, for want of a $100 surgery, someone dumped a pedigreed kitten (she's only about a year). On the plus side, she's now queen of the castle - or so she insists - & is totally in love with my friend (& vice versa), on the minus side, I'm the evil witch that keeps taking her to the vet (she's now had surgery & is 100%) & she HATES me. :P

CanadianBella, when I saw your thread title, I was wondering why you were thinking of foster children when you are so young. :omg:Not that there is anything wrong with that. Glad I read your thread.:)
For us, it would be hard to give up the fur babies once they have spent time with us. So that's why we don't do it.
