Hi tecky SCers. Don't laugh. My friend got a free Palm Pilot from work. Because it is so old, they are giving it away. It is still in it's plastic packaging.
Please tell me, what can you do with a Palm Pilot? Is it too old, technology wise? The package says it has Windows 2000 on it.
Thx.This thread is currently associated with: Microsoft

You could use it to keep contacts in, keep your shopping list I guess. I have an old one too, it's gathering dust somewhere.

Palm as a company doesnt even exist anymore... They were bought by 3com who also doesnt exist anymore... They were bought by HP.
..and HP didnt continue to create the Palm Pilot or it's devices past the expected support period after the acquisition. And that was a few years back
In fact the last thing HP did in the portable market was their own branded tablet last year which was an abysmal failure and lasted less than 6 months before it got snit-canned. (and it had NOTHING to do with Palm anyway)
Chances are you arent going to be able to find any reliable source for software for it for synching with the PC (which makes it practically useless if you can't do that). Even if you do, it won't do anything anyhwere close to any smartphone out in the market today... in fact you can do as much or more with a simple iPod or Samsung Galaxy MP3 player than you can with a Palm Pilot.
My suggestion: If it's still in the shrink package try and sell it on eBay. You might find some freaky nostalgic type who collects this stuff who would go gaga for finding one still in the original package... and might even pay good money for it.Last edited by bhlombardy; Fri, Nov 2nd, 2012 at 09:19 PM.

Its actually not bad as a Personal Digital Assistant ( PDA ) . You can use it to store contacts and do quite a few things with it.
Use it more like an electronic diary .
If you just have a regular phone ( not a smartphone ) then you can use the phone and this palm pilot.

I had the last one that came out back in 2006. I mainly used it for making lists and the occasional game. But in 2009, after 3 years of being attached to it, constantly charging and then using it, it just died. And, then I moved on to an iPod.
