Our house came like that, but I'm guessing the cost of doing 80 feet of countertops in granite or marble would be astronomical! I think whoever lived here before had a home business as a caterer or chef.
On the initial post, I don't like how the cutting surface is lower than the countertops. For a tall person, I'd think it'd be really uncomfortableLast edited by sweet sparrow; Fri, Nov 23rd, 2012 at 10:21 AM.

Gross! This idea certainly wouldn't fly in restaurants for food prep....why in homes?

I'd hate to see how nasty the cutting board is going to get after a while. We have a small wooden cutting board and after about a year of being used it is all filled with cut marks. I wouldn't want an actual part of my kitchen getting scraped and cut. I also think the surface would be a little too low for me. If I am cutting things and know I will have waste, I keep a plastic grocery bag close by so I can toss the garbage in that and throw in the trash when I am done (no composting in this part of NB). I would love to have new appliances and cupboards though. I have yet to rent an apartment with cupboards younger than me, under 30 :S.

Chopping space and garbage at the same place? Nope. I don't like it.

Usually I'm very sensitive to the needs of the environment. But just for the chopping bits thing. I put in a garbagrator.

I hope that's a green bin collection bucket! Either way, having the cutting board snuggled in with the waste bin is too yucky for me. Also I think I'd need a bigger chopping surface. Really though, is it so hard to just periodically throw your food prep waste into the countertop green bin? This kinda seems like a solution looking for a problem...

I was about to say the same thing as duckface. Why the heck is everything going into the general garbage bag. I should be going into a compost pail/bin/bowl. Anyway....it doesn't appeal to me at all.
So many coupons....so little time!
